Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 3 of Turn 3
It took Y'sani more time than he liked to find time to escape from his duties, and he still found himself glancing over his shoulder as he waited for Karaleigh to open her office door, half convinced that a weyrling was going to pop out from around the corner at any moment with a complaint or question or an emergency that _had_ to be dealt with _immediately_ or dire consequences would occur.
**Imminent injury or death only,** he told Luthinath firmly as he knocked a second time, wanting to get out of the hallway before anyone found him and dragged him away. He had dinner for two tucked under his arm, and barring imminent injury of death from the weyrlings, he had _no_ intention of anyone finding him until he'd gotten to spend at least a candlemark with Karaleigh.
"Yes?" Karaleigh asked, opening the door with a rather frazzled look to her.
Her face soon broke into a grin when she saw who was standing outside her door ; "Oh, thank Faranth its you ; I was afraid it was another parent. Come on in."
Y'sani closed the door behind himself and leaned up against it, giving her a grin in return. "Can we lock the door and hide from parents and weyrlings for the next candlemark?"
"Well, that certainly sounds like a rather pleasant notion," she smiled as she turned the lock. Only with Y'sani would she feel comfortable enough to lock herself in a room with a bronzerider ; Perhaps O'dan if the circumstances truly called for it, but she couldn't trust the man to behave himself most days.
When she turned back around, Y'sani leaned down to give her a brief, gentle kiss before sliding his hand down to her lower back and guiding her away from the door. "Let's sit down and eat. I begged dinner from the kitchens for us again."
"You seem to be rather good at begging the kitchens," Karaleigh smiled as she let him lead her back to her chair ; "What's your secret, hm?"
Y'sani held the chair for her and waited until she was seated before finding a chair for himself, which he dropped into with a sigh of relief. "I found a nice old cook and told her all about the interesting harper I was trying to impress." Giving Karaleigh a tired smile, he settled the basket onto her desk. "Though I've promised to bring you to the kitchens to meet her, now."
"Oh really? Showing me off to your other ladies?" Karaleigh asked with a teasing gleam in her eye.
"Only the one who keeps feeding us," he replied just as lightly, unpacking their dinner. "She's earned a visit from my special harper friend, I think.
Just don't listen to anything she tells you." Y'sani winked at her. "I don't really visit the kitchen in the middle of the night for sweets, no matter _what_ she says."
"Uh huh," she said giving a skeptical look. "Well, I wouldn't mind if you did ; It sounds like a lovely idea to me."
"We'll have to meet in the kitchen for a late night berry pie rendezvous then." He passed her a plate and set one down on his side of the desk, and then dropped the utensils between them. "So I take it you've had a busy day with your students?"
"With a room full of weyrbrats, _everyday_ is a busy day," Karaleigh sighed as she picked up her share of silverware ; "I've had many worse days, so I can't complain."
"I suppose I shouldn't complain either," Y'sani replied, not wanting to dwell on the sort of bad days he'd had in the past. With the blooding of the eldest weyrlings behind them at least he had a few months to catch his breath before having to wonder how many of his charged would still be alive at the end of the day. "It would be nice to have a little more free time, though. I was hoping we could find some time to spend some time outside of our offices again."
"Hmmm," she hummed, her fork poised over a piece of asparagus, reveling in the thought of time away from the office, and especially in Y'sani's company ; "That would be nice, wouldn't it ; We will certainly have to make arrangements."
"Where would you like to go? I've heard the Baker Hall at Saphire Meadows Hold sells the most marvelous sweets..." Perhaps not the most romantic destination, but he wasn't quite ready to start wooing her with moonlit beaches yet. "And what girl can resist _sweets_," Karaleigh grinned ; "I think I would like to visit the Baker Hall."
"Well, then. We'll have to find a time to indulge ourselves in some sweets."
And because her grin lit up her whole face, Y'sani leaned back in his chair with a shake of his head. "And if you smile like that at all the bronzeriders, I don't know if I can blame them for chasing you. You're making it hard for me to concentrate on the first real meal I've had all day." "I can stop if you like," she said shrugged, looking at him with large, innocent eyes.
"Never," Y'sani replied, reaching out for his mug. "I didn't say it wasn't worth it, after all." "Well, take me to the Baker Hall, and I promise, you'll see it a lot more."
"I have every intention of it." Y'sani took another sip before setting his mug down. "So are you going to stab me with that fork if I try to give you an after-dinner kiss?" "Well, that depends on how much garlic was used to season the meal," she replied with a teasing wink ; "But so far, I think your chances are high."
"Mmmm... I like to think of myself as a brave man." He scooted his chair around the corner of the desk and close enough to hers that he could slide an arm around her waist. "And if there's one thing I'm confident about, it's that you won't hesitate to stab me if you decide I need to back off."
Well, maybe she wouldn't _stab_ him, but Karaleigh had proven at their first meeting that she could tell a bronzerider exactly what she thought of his advances with little trouble.
"And if I kiss you now, then can I finish my meal?" she asked lightly.
"How about you finish your meal first." Y'sani reached over and stabbed the piece of asparagus her fork had been hovering over for so long with his own fork. "Unless I'm distracting you." He winked at her before popping the food into his mouth.
