R'fayne

It was the middle of the night. O'rosin was dead asleep. Something was tap-tapping his face. Light enough that he didn't awaken afraid, but strange enough that his sleepy brain was too confused to immediately understand that the bright green dots above his face was a firelizard, or that this firelizard was named Digger. It made sense after a few minutes, as alertness slowly came back to him. He groaned and swatted the firelizard away, slowly rising and feeling around the floor for his hastily discarded clothes.

He did not realize that he put on the wrong shirt, or that he missed a button hole. He saw the outline of the sleeping figure on his couch and knew who it was before he flipped the glowbasket open. Aeoluth, also sound asleep, was no help in uncovering this mystery.

So, like Digger, he tap-tapped her face until she woke up.

“StoppitDigger,” Cirina sleepily raised a hand to push a firelizard away, only to wind up smacking O’rosin squarely in his big stupid hard shoulder. “Ow. What’re you doing? What time is it?” Belatedly remembering why she was here, she sat up abruptly (almost headbutting him), “Are we late?”

"Ow." O'rosin exclaimed, though it was entirely out of surprise and not pain. "It's the middle of the night. When did you get here? Aeoluth didn't say anything."

“I dunno. You and R’fayne were fooling around so maybe he didn’t want to bother you. He could have warned me, but,” she shrugged. “I brought you some late dinner but it’s definitely cold by now.”

"We were-" O'rosin cleared his throat awkwardly. "You both should've bothered me. You were out here the whole time?"

Cirina yawned, trying to finger comb her hair back into order, “Do you have a brush? I just went to sleep. That was the plan,” she reminded him.

“Oh. Cirina, how _could_ you,” R’fayne drawled dispassionately from the other room. Taking the time to be somewhat decent for their eyes, a moment later he appeared bare-chested, in boxers, squinting against the light. “Actually, I’m a little insulted by that. We’re gonna have to step it up O’rosin, it’s a bad sign if we’re putting people to sleep.” He paused, curious. “Plan for what?”

O'rosin's face heated, first at seeing R'fayne in the doorway and inappropriately dressed for company, then flushed redder at the words. "No." He managed, to the bluerider. He thought a moment longer, his sleepy brain trying to make sense of what's happening. "Is tonight the night you wanted to go to Barrier Lake?" He asked dumbly, as if there was any other reason Cirina would be on his couch in the middle of the night.

“No, I just wanted to come over and be reminded how painfully single I am because all the cute boys like boys,” she said dryly. Then, just in case, she said, “Yes, tonight is the night I needed a ride. Aydhara’s having a party. You can come too, if you put some pants on,” she graciously told R’fayne.

“Barrier Lake’s probably freezing.” R’fayne replied with a slight frown. “But if it’ll make you feel better, I’ll even put a shirt on.” His yawn was faintly audible over the gush of the tap, and despite the dimness of the kitchen his gaze still caught on what O’rosin was wearing. Grinning, his attention slid to Cirina, “When is it you need to leave, then?”

“Well, I’m awake now, so we might as well go as soon as I’ve put myself back in order.” Which mostly meant her hair. She was already wearing a lovely green dress that went well with her coloring. “It’s early evening there, and I think she said there’d be a bonfire. It’ll be fun. And look, O’rosin even got a new shirt for the occasion.”

“His taste’s improving.” R'fayne said with an approving nod. His glass just so happened to cover his smirk.

O'rosin glanced down, realized his mistake, and sputtered. He left without a word (there were not) and returned again a few minutes later with a regular bland shirt. He tossed the 'new' shirt back to R'fayne. "I'm going to wake Aeoluth!"

“Oh. I thought the shirt was an improvement. It had some color …” Cirina gave a long suffering sigh, then retrieved her sandals with almost improbably high heels and headed towards the ledge. “Well, I’m ready to go!”

R'fayne gave up reckoning time differences and drills schedules and made peace that they were departing in the middle of the night, catching the shirt in his free hand with a roll of his eyes. As he headed into the bedroom, he called, “Alright. Just give me a second to throw this on.”
