O'rosin

O'rosin

For once, O’rosin was home when Cirina stormed in. Presumably, he’d had some warning considering Aeoluth had had to swoop down to pick her up, but she stomped inside without knocking, sputtering out, “R’lor is the absolute worst. I just… UGH.” She took off one of her boots and tossed it hard enough that it bounced off the wall.

O'rosin only had warning because he prompted Aeoluth when the brown dropped off the ledge like a stone. "I warned you." He said tiredly. "No more trips? Or did you make it worse?"

“No. Why would I make it worse?” She looked like she was about to throw her other boot at him, but instead flung it next to the first. “He’s convinced I’ve been taking my life into my own hands every time I climb on your wild and out of control dragon. So I managed to convince him that Aeoluth is just fine with me, and you know what he thinks now?!”

O'rosin was ready to duck, a habit instilled in him from when him or any number of his siblings mouthed off to an auntie. "That he really Impressed you, and you're failing weyrling training instead?" He offered, "Or do you have to help me more?"

“Almost! He thinks Aeoluth must behave better for me than for you.” She flopped dramatically into a chair, “So now he wants me to join your lessons so he learns more patience! Like I have some ability to make Aeoluth behave that you don’t.”

"No kids in his crowd, that's for sure." O'rosin drawled. "He _is_ on his best behaviour with you, like how youngins are when they're visiting. Ain't going to teach him any more patience, though. You'll leave and he'll start it up again. Dunno where he thinks I'll have the time for that, he has me doing lessons with a wingrider now too. Unless you're tagging along with me on our group drills. Saedyna would love that."

“Oh, he said you could work with me and a member of the weyrling staff instead of an older rider,” she made an exasperated sound. “Like I’m more useful. Fine though. Maybe if Aeoluth is well behaved for a lesson or two he’ll back off. He just needs to see what a good boy Aeoluth is.”

"Well he needs to listen to himself and take better notes. I just got back from meeting with wingrider N'tan, and we have more time scheduled in a few days." O'rosin said with a tone laced with exasperation. "If I can make it six more sevendays, do you think my Wingleader will let me sleep for a few days? Iff'n R'lor even lets me graduate."

“Oh. And you should be taking your rest days to relax. Just. Ugh. I don’t understand why he hates you. Is it the holder thing? Some bluerider compensating thing? Did you steal the last bubbly pie?” She was glaring at O’rosin as if he were actually to blame.

O'rosin raised his hands in a mock surrender. "If you find out, please tell me. It took me a month to even try for a bubbly pie. I thought they were for special occasions. Dunno if he even realizes how much work this is all taking me. It's like he expects me to know what I'm doin' the first time I do it."

“Ugh! No. He definitely doesn’t. I told him you weren’t resting and he didn’t believe me. He just has these ideas in his head. And haven’t I done enough already? I helped you with your candidate lessons, I helped you with Aeoluth, and now I’m supposed to help you graduate? It’s not fair,” her voice wavered and angry tears started falling, “it was supposed to be me.”

Oh no. O'rosin scooted his chair closer to her and offered her a handkerchief. "It was." He agreed, "Aeoluth was a moron to pick me when someone like you is right there. It's not on _you_ to help me do anything. R'lor can go stuff it."

She blew her nose into the handkerchief, “Don’t be stupid. Aeoluth would have been a terrible green. Just… it’s not fair,” she repeated. “But if R’lor fails you you’ll be trapped in weyrlinghood forever like Ç’pier and that’s not fair either.”

"Not quite like Ç'pier, I won't have to work for Saedyna." O'rosin said, "I'll scrape through. Asking you to show up for weyrling lessons without a dragon is awful. Don't do that. Say you're busy. You have craft classes and Sh'del has you showing holder girls around. Like you said, Aeoluth ain't going to fix himself just because you're there a couple times."

“No. But maybe R’lor will think it worked and back off. And if I don't, maybe he’ll hold it against me. Sometimes it’s easier to just go along,” she sniffed again and wiped her eyes dry. “And it can’t be worse than the stupid craft class.”

"And then you'd fall behind." O'rosin said, "I know it's just until the next clutch and all, but I don't want you ending up having to catch up, too. I can handle it another six sevendays. I'm still meetin' with that wingrider, maybe he's got the one trick that contains Aeoluth."

“And besides, if I don’t do it, you’re going to have to start coming back to the barracks to study because he thinks me riding on Aeoluth is dangerous. I barely got out of getting myself grounded. And he did not agree to give me any alternative transportation, surprise,” she said dryly.

"Of course not." O'rosin said. "Well, here's hoping your plan works. And that Aeoluth's behaviour between the two of us isn't so drastic that R'lor notices a difference once you're gone."

“This is not a plan. This is just a desperate hope,” Cirina groaned.
