O'rosin

O'rosin

O'rosin snuck out to the bathing rooms right before lights out in hopes that there weren't nearly as many people out and about. He wasn't unused to communal bathing rooms, but getting naked around people that weren't directly related to him made him squeamish.

(There was another, smaller discomfort at the thought of seeing any number of his classmates naked, or worse, that they saw _him_ naked, but that was a different problem for a different day.)

So his hair was still damp and his toiletries tucked under one arm when he arrived back at his new weyr, only to find a new rug on the floor and a new tablecloth on the table where Cirina was snacking. He glanced over at Aeoluth, confused, and the brown only sent back a feeling of pleasant comfort.

"Where did you get these?" He asked, gesturing to both new items.

“I checked them out of the stores for you. Your weyr is a little sad and empty. I know it's just temporary, but sheesh, if you're worried about moving again, I'll help you pack up all five of your things. You don't have to have cold floors and a chipped up table,” Cirina spoke around a mouthful of cookie.

"The chipped table came with the weyr." O'rosin said, though with the look of a man who hadn't considered simply asking for more. "Did you have to pay for anything? We're not cleared to run errands yet, but I can get the marks for you once I do."

“Huh? Oh, no. I don’t have any marks,” Cirina scoffed. “The Weyr has lots of basic stuff like that in storage and you can mostly sign out what you need. I signed it out for you. I was assigned to do some cleaning in the store rooms today. Once you’ve got your permanent weyr you really need to do some more decorating.”

O'rosin frowned in confusion. "Well, thank you anyway. I.. don't know much about decorating. I thought the stuff provided here was what we got. What else is in the storerooms?" He asked. Most of their things back home were essentials and worn down.

“Did they never assign you-” Cirina cut herself off, realizing no, they probably hadn’t assigned him any tasks involving record keeping like taking inventory. “We could go look around some afternoon when you’re free. Basically everything you could think of to furnish a weyr. Most of it is pretty basic, but it gets the job done.” Eying him for a reaction, she said, “You could also probably get some new clothes if your closet is a little sparse.” She’d assumed he just had several of the same shirts. Now she wondered.

"If you think it's a good idea?" O'rosin asked, "I'm not earning my keep here yet. It feels foolish to ask for more when I can barely fly." He looked down at his shirt and then back up again, not quite understanding but knowing it was something, he added. "I got some new clothes when I first arrived. I wasn't at home when I was Searched so I just had the clothes I was wearing. They even gave me something nice for Turn's End." Not that he had much else to pack, nor that he did anything at Turn's End.

“Pffft,” Cirina said, “it’s not like you’re taking it out of someone else’s weyr. It’s just going to sit in storage if no one uses it, and what’s the use of that?” Her eyes narrowed, “What did you do at Turns End? I don’t remember seeing you and this ‘something nice’.”

"You and Aeoluth were already gone to the party." O'rosin said dryly. "Nah, I'm so far behind in class compared to everyone else that I had dinner, tried to study for a bit, and went to bed early. I even managed to sleep through Aeoluth landing on the ledge." The brown wasn't so good at flying as he was _determined_ at flying, and the sound of wingbeats and claws scrambling on the ledge was enough to put O'rosin on high alert.

“Hey, I only borrowed him a little! I thought there was a goldrider visiting and I wanted to be the first Candidate to play tour guide. ‘Course I was wrong and it wound up being her daughter, but that was fun too. She said Aeoluth was a good boy, too,” Cirina pointed out, faithful in her affection for the brown.

"I'm not saying he's bad, I'm saying he's gentler with you then he is with me. He nearly throws me more than he doesn't." O'rosin said. "It's good he's behaving himself in front of important people. Goodness knows I don't need another thing for R'lor to find out about."
