Confusion

Writers: Patrick
Date Posted: 18th May 2006

Characters: Cherlyn
Description: Cherlyn has confusing thoughts about her brush with J'ren, and her green's next flight.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 23 of Turn 3

Cherlyn stepped into her weyr, sliding her riding jacket to the floor. The wings had been let out early, what with Threadfall tomorrow.

Lueanth slumped her green body up onto her couch, sighing as she rested a weary body.

With a slight smile, Cherlyn began to massage and oil her dragon's sore spots. This rote job of oiling her dragon left her mind free to wander.

Her thoughts immediatly sought out J'ren. Ever since their dragons had brought them to the same beach, she couldn't stop thinking of him.

}:He is nice.:{ sighed Lueanth, leaning into the oiling. Cherlyn blinked. Her dragon had helped her to be more assertive, but had held her own counsel on people she had met before. She tended to forget them quickly anyway.

}:You like him. He is good for you and he has a strong bronze. They would be a good match for us.:{ Lueanth let out a low moan as she rolled over, her inner eyelid beginning to close.

"Oh, but dearheart, he lives almost a half a world away. It would never work." Cherlyn said to her dragon. But could it? Could a dragon sense a mating flight half a world away? Maybe a gold, but never a green. Cherlyn sighed. Her hands continued to search out rough patches and tense muscles on her dragon. But no matter how hard she tried she couldn't think of anyone else she wanted to win her green's flight than J'ren's Kenaranth.

But he was a bronzerider! In her frustration, Cherlyn threw the oiled cloth across the room. She went to pick it up. As she returned to her dragon, she remembered the conversations about the differences in weyrlife she'd had with J'ren. How they'd both sounded so nervous. That reminded her of the weyrwoman, Traelyn. She spoke with, and visited, her friends at Dragonsfall all the time.

But she was a goldrider. Not a low level, unnoticed, greenrider who few relized existed, let alone cared for. When Lueanth rose to mate soon, the needy male dragons of the weyr would rise to catch her. Their riders would enjoy their time with Cherlyn, then leave her, some politely, others not. But she thought J'ren had seemed different, compassionate. She was so confused.

}:I love you.:{ came Lueanth's sleepy reply.

"I know, love, I know." Cherlyn finished oiling and slumped onto her bed. What could she do? She'd never felt this way before. Not about anyone. She was begining to see why holders didn't think much of dragonrider pairings. They were so sharding _difficult_!

She kicked her boots off her feet. She loosened her belt, imagining J'ren's hands doing that for her. No!
It wouldn't work, couldn't work...Could it?
