Jeyme

Dawn was colouring the sky a soft, petal pink as J'nus entered his office with a mug of klah in hand. He hit the lightswitch with his elbow as the door swung closed behind him on silent hinges. He winced at the light, then sighed as he sat down heavily behind his desk and let his gaze wander over the neatly stacked piles of hides and diagrams that waited for his attention. Sweeprides to go over,
documentation to ensure got to its proper place for archiving, Threadfall charts, weather forecasts, and of course they'd have to add to it all with yesterday's Threadfall.

Rebelliously, J'nus slurped his klah and closed his eyes, as if ignoring the work would make it go away. Or at least, go away until a later candlemark when looking at it wouldn't cross his eyes. His Wingsecond and 'Third would be arriving any moment, so the bronzerider tried to enjoy the quiet as best he could as he waited.

Jeyme entered first, looking as energetic as J'nus felt. The greenrider was nursing her own cup of klah as she entered her Wingleader's office with a folder of hides tucked under her arm.

"Mornin'," she said around a yawn that brought tears to her eyes. The early morning meetings after a late Threadfall the day before were always torturous but necessary.

"Good Morning." N'call echoed as he slipped through the door right behind Jeyme. He tried to stifle a huge yawn not quite successfully and put his own cup on the desk alongside his own notes. "Well, that 'fall was certainly... interesting."

"Don't do that." J'nus did his best to stifle another yawn, then sipped at his klah. "Let's start there. Tell me about the 'fall, from your perspective."

Jeyme deferred to N'call as she readied her ledger so that she could take down the minutes of their meeting as she usually did. She was at least glad to see that her Wingleader and Wingsecond were feeling the effects of the fall and early morning the same as she was.

N'call closed his eyes for a moment and smiled to himself. It always seemed to fall in his lap though he knew he needed the experience and J'nus was giving him an opportunity to prove himself. "Well, I'd say the wind blowing the Thread sideways was one challenge. But that it also blew several younger greens into wingmates was also. I saw more than one pair tangle and almost fall into the queen's wing."

"I noticed that as well. I'd like to switch out the catch drill we have planned for two days from now for a quick /between/ drill to remind them that we can always /between/ back into position if the wind is strong. And that any Thread we miss can be dealt with by the next Wing." J'nus thought for a moment. "One of you should talk with E'mra to make sure that they're not too rattled after that near miss."

"I'll swing by and talk to him," Jeyme volunteered. "Our children have the same foster mother so it's no problem."

"Thank you Jeyme," N'call nodded. "I also noticed that K'tu was spot on with his three. None of them were out of place even during the worst parts. They were all steady and got all the changes you had to call. I think he's ready for a six. What do you think?"

There were only so many positions to lead a six available within a Wing, and if he was honest with himself-- J'nus hadn't been paying that close attention to K'tu. Thank the Egg for sharp-eyed 'Seconds. K'tu was level headed and steady, and wouldn't be a bad choice. "Let's revisit K'tu next time we switch up the Wing or we need a fill-in for a sixth. I trust your eye, N'call."

Jeyme made a note about K'tu so they could follow up on it the next 'Fall. She then skimmed down her list at the next topic.

"Injured riders," she said to the two men. "After yesterday's fall we have three injured wingriders. One major, two minor."

J'nus ran a hand over his tired eyes. "I only saw C'retti in the Infirmary. Who were the others?" They must have been 'Scored in the first half of the 'Fall.

N'call could only think of the entanglements he'd mentioned earlier. Perhaps one of them had received a cut or muscle strain or even a minor scoring while their attention was diverted. "Were the minor ones treated and released? I'd like to visit them at least."

"Osmari's finger was broken when they got tangled with W'yran and then A'mres had a minor scoring on the neck." Jeyme reported. "Quinneth says they're both back at their weyrs."

If A'mres was back at his weyr already then he'd likely be healed enough to fly in the next 'Fall, but that meant that two riders were out. "Thank you N'call," J'nus said absently. "I'd appreciate you checking up on them for me. Jeyme, do we have anyone coming back into rotation after being out, who might be able to backfill for us?"

Jeyme lifted a sheet and scanned her notes. "We've got one scheduled to return, brownrider S'eben."

"Let's move someone from the front of the Wing into C'retti's position-- I want someone confident to boost their Six. Let's pull someone from the back for S'eben's position, and then backfill the rear position with S'eben." It would give S'eben time to regain his own confidence after being out for recovery.

"Right," N'call nodded and scribbled his own notes. "How about V'rest?"

The Wingleader nodded. "Yes. Let's move V'rest. Anything else we should discuss?"

Jeyme had nothing else to add and was instead making herself a to-do list in relation to their meeting. She would go by and see E'mra as soon as J'nus released them.

N'call shook his head.

"Great. And let the Wing know that I'm cancelling this afternoon's drill. We all deserve a rest." J'nus sipped his klah. After all, rest was just important as work... and the best part about being Wingleader was that he could schedule in a nap if he wanted to.
