Ma,

Sorry I haven't written sooner but I just found out today that I'm
having twins. The bronzerider delivering this note is D'hol and he's
the father. He's also very freaked out by the news. It's with good
reason though. He had another set earlier in life that didn't survive
birth so please treat him gently, I beg you. Also, please pack a bag
and come to stay with us for the next few months.

Oh, and if she's feeling up to it, can you ask gran to send some of
her cream horns? I have a craving.

Timassa

~~~ End Letter ~~~
Sockita arched a brow at the Barrier Lake Weyrleader. That would
explain why he was playing courier instead of sending someone. "So,
you're the one who convinced my daughter to keep a pregnancy."
D'hol waited until the older woman, a woman that was not too much
older than himself, he noted, eyed him. He inclined his head. "All I
did was ask her to consider it. It was ultimately up to her and I'm
very grateful that she agreed." He wondered what exactly had been in
the short note to Timassa's mother. "She's hoping that you'll return
with me to spend time with her until the children are born."
The corner of her mouth turned up. "I know very well no one can make
Timassa do anything she doesn't want to. She says you're having
twins."
"And I believe you're very right." D'hol nodded his head in agreement,
but at the mention of twins, his smile faded just enough to be
noticeable. "Yes. She is. I think having you there would be a comfort
to us both considering the risks involved."
She nodded. "Timassa says you've had a bad experience with that. Twins
certainly have a higher risk than the regular dangers of pregnancy,
but our family has a history of healthy twins."
D'hol shifted uncomfortably at the mention of his children; he didn't
like discussing his loss openly and was loathe to do so with a
complete stranger. Instead, he cleared his throat and nodded. "So she
said. But it's still stressful on her. I do hope that you'll agree to
come. We've prepared a room for you."
"Of course I'll come. I'll need to pack a few things, and I need to
send a message to Timassa's gran. Timassa has a craving for one of her
special treats." Sockita smiled. "I know you must be very busy,
Weyrleader, so I understand if you don't have time to wait."
"What do you think she'll do if I come back without you?" His brow
quirked up at the thought. "I have a good Second. I made time for this
and if there's an emergency, Yumath will tell me. Right now, he's
quite happy with the attention of three greens. I'm sure he doesn't
mind waiting on you."
Sockita nodded. "I'll be as quick as I can." She wrote a brief message
and sent it off to her mother with a drudge. Then she grabbed a bag
and filled it with a few changes of clothes and necessities. A short
while later she was pulling on her riding jacket. "I'm ready,
Weyrleader."
After waiting, D'hol offered his arm courteously and took the bag to
carry it for the woman. It was a small pack, but he would make sure
that she had everything she might need for her stay. Leading her to
where Yumath sat, D'hol watched as the big bronze knelt before he was
asked and lowered his head to greet the new woman.
"Greetings Yumath. You're a very handsome bronze, and I thank you for
the ride." She rubbed his muzzle as she watched the huge whirling
eyes. Then she mounted with the relative ease of a life-long Weyr
resident.
The moment she was settled into the straps, D'hol strapped himself in.
With a gesture, Yumath was in the air and within moments, he appeared
over Barrier Lake. Banking, he called out to the familiar green on
their ledge, announcing their arrival before back winging and landing
with grace.
Timassa was practically dancing on the balls of her feet as Yumath
landed. "Ma," she said with tears in her eyes. Emotion had overwhelmed
her while she waited and felt the babies moving and she'd realized how
much her mother had born to bring her and Octima into the world. She
waited until Sockita's feet were on the ground before throwing her arms
around her. "It's so good to see you," she said.
Sockita hugged her daughter tight. "It's good to see you too, dear."
For Timassa to ask for her help like this, she must really need it.
Once Sokita got her alone she was going to ask Timassa a few gentle
questions, but not now in front of the nervous father.
Timassa leaned back to look up at her mother who was a bit taller.
"Thank you for coming," she said. "We have a room all ready for you.
She linked arms with Sockita and led her into the Weyr. "We have two
stories, and your room is at the top of the stairs."
