Jeyme

Barrier Lake was certainly different than the other two Weyrs that
Jeyme had lived. Dolphin Cove and Far Island had been similar in many
ways with their access to the ocean, but this lake Weyr was
intriguing. It certainly felt more like home to be once again with the
wingriders she had come to know from Rapids Wing, who had already
transferred ahead of her.

"Dheymin, wait for me," she called to her son. The little tyke was
eagerly galloping forward, eager to see the new sights. Ayeme was with
her new foster mother.

Dheymin did not slow down, he had seen something that Jeyme had not -
his father! "Dad!" the five-Turn-old called as he raced toward the
bronzerider.

D'hol looked up at the familiar high-pitched voice, hands stilling on
the side of his dragon as he knelt in the sand to be oiled. His brow
furrowed, then shot up, surprised as Dheymin barreled into his legs.
"Dheymin?" He caught up the boy, unfortunately smearing oil on the
young boy's clothes. "This is a surprise!" He glanced around and saw
Jeyme and one brow arched in question.

"Can I help with Yumath? Can I?" Dheymin asked eagerly.

Jeyme approached with one eye closed against the sunlight. "We just
finished unloading our things and were taking a little sight-seeing
tour." It had been some time since Jeyme had seen D'hol in person, she
was glad to see that there were no traces of recovery left from his
ordeal. Leadership agreed with him.

"Unloading?" D'hol arched a brow. "You've transferred here, then?
That's a surprise." He turned to smile down at his son. "Sure, lad.
Grab an oil paddle and you can help with his forelimbs."

"Kapera invited me," Jeyme said, watching as Dheymin scrambled to do
as his father said. "Offered me a wingthird position, actually, with
either her or J'nus."

He hadn't expected Jeyme to transfer here, but he had no complaint;
he'd get to see Dheymin much more than he'd been able to since he
transferred here. "I'm sure either would be glad to have you in their
wing. You'd be a benefit to either, " he offered. "Dheymin, not so
much. Spread it out a bit more, son."

Jeyme stood a little taller from the compliment. "Thank you. It wasn't
a very hard decision. Dheymin needs his father, and the opportunity to
see his father lead a Weyr? No son should miss that."

Dheymin gave his father a chagrined smile, all teeth, as he hastily
began spreading out the large dollop of oil he'd slathered onto
Yumath.

D'hol chuckled as he watched Dheymin work, then turned back to Jeyme.
"I won't have as much time as I did leading the wing to spend time
with him, but I'll do my best to spend all the time I can with him."

"Of course, I am sure he will love whatever time you have. He'll make
friends quickly in the creche as well." Jeyme said watching as Dheymin
looked down at his hands, inspecting them now that they were covered
in oil.

Yumath lowered his head and nudged Dheymin, offering him his jaws and
neck for the oil. D'hol silently thanked the big bronze. "I'm sure he
will. Have you gotten settled then? Everything in place?"

"I'm not quite unpacked, someone," her eyes traveled to their son,
"was getting restless so I told him we would go exploring, visit the
Dining Cavern for a snack, and then I would take him to his foster
mother's." Jeyme loved all of the time she had with Dheymin, but it
was nearly impossible to unpack and organize with a five-Turn-old in
the weyr.

A brow arched and lips curled upward in dry amusement. "Why don't I
watch him for a candlemark for you? You can pick him up at my weyr
when you're ready. "

The greenrider's shoulders dipped a bit in relief, as she turned her
eyes up to the Weyrleader. "That would be wonderful, D'hol, if you're
sure it wouldn't put you in a bind."

"It won't. I'm actually just due to do some hidework this afternoon.
It can wait until this evening." He'd just have to make sure Timassa
would be aware of his guest if Dheymin had to stay later than
expected. "I don't mind. We can catch up. Just let me know when you're
ready to come and get him."

Jeyme dropped a peck on his cheek. "You're the best," she said, before
zipping away so that Dheymin wouldn't see her leaving.

Her hurry brought another snort of bemusement and he shook his head.
Walking back to Yumath, where Dheymin was liberally smearing more oil,
he picked his son up and gestured to the bronze's wing. "That next,
alright boyo?"

Dheymin's oil-covered hands popped up as he said with zest, "Yeah!"
