He walked to the door. He was sure his missing son and wife could be found in this very Weyr. The stupid girl had gone and gotten mouthy with him. He had every right as her husband to discipline her. He had simply asked if the boy was his. He knew he wasn't. He wasn't daft. He knew full well his wife hated him. Then she had the gull to up and leave him. He hadn't seen her in an entire month's time. He knew she would take the boy to his real father. Well, he wasn't going to just lie down and allow the girl to have her way. She was his wife and the boy was his. At least they will when he found them. That boy fisherman wasn't going to get the best of him. He had finally decided to take his problem to the Weyrleader. He didn't care that the Weyr was dealing with a crisis. It wasn't his bloody fault a bunch of dragonriders couldn't fly straight. He knocked on the door as he reached it.
"Come in," T'moran called, still concentrating on his paperwork. He'd certainly not missed the amount of time spent at his desk during the too-short period when he'd not been Weyrleader!
Looking up, he frowned as he failed to recognize his visitor. "Good day, holder - do you have an appointment?"
"I'm glad I could get her to see you. I seem to have found myself with a problem that you may help me with. My wife and son have disappeared and were last seen with the family of one of your riders. My wife and he knew each other as children and I believe she has taken to believing me an unfair man. I believe requesting certain information form my wife just. She may have sought his assistance in leaving because I do not allow her to get away with anything. I believe she and my son are her. I simply came to request their return. I have asked the rider in question for their return to no avail. I came to make one more request before I go to the Lord Holder," he said reasonably.
"Slow down a moment," T'moran said, slightly confused. "You claim that your wife and son are missing, and you think that they might be with one of my riders. You came here to request that they be returned to you. Do I have everything correct so far?"
"I apologize if I seem long winded. I just wish to have my family returned to their rightful place." He smiled. "You have the information correct. A young brownrider I believe."
"I see. Can you give me the name of the brownrider in question, and of your wife and son? I'm sure we can quickly establish whether or not they are in the Weyr, and if they are, you are welcome to ask them if they wish to return to you."
"I only know the boy as Zial. My wife is Animaliya and my son is Zamley," he said. He hoped this man wouldn't hinder him in taking them home. They were his by right.
"Z'al." The Weyrleader frowned - he'd heard about _that_ particular young rider from Xuxha and J'darin when he'd been Weyrlingmaster! But to take a holder woman away from her husband seemed...uncharacteristic. All the riders were warned in the strongest terms not to interfere with the Holds, despite what they might perceive as injustice - or else Emerald Falls would be empty of women by now.
"Well, holder, my advice would be to take your query to the Headwoman. If your wife and child are here, they will have been introduced to her and she'll have found them duties to do. I regret that I don't have time to deal with your problem myself. As you're no doubt aware, Dolphin Cove has lost a lot of riders recently and my first priority must be to deal with the problems of the Weyr."
"I thank you for the time and information. Is there a place I can find this rider or the headwoman? I will be more than happy to take my problem to one of them."
"You'll probably find Headwoman Mayla in her office, or in the kitchens - if not, one of her assistants will be able to make an appointment with her for you. I'd rather you saw her first, rather than looking for Z'al." T'moran met the holder's gaze steadily. "The last thing my riders need now, after the losses they have suffered, are accusations being thrown at them. I'm sure you understand me."
"Yes of course." He smiled as he got up to leave. "I shall leave you then."
"Good day to you." T'moran nodded briefly to the man as he left and then returned to his paperwork with a vague feeling of annoyance. Again, not a word of condolence about his lost and injured riders. What would it take to teach these holders some gratitude?
