Description: Ma'din goes to see Jeyme to see if she'll let him see Dheymin.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 10, day 1 of Turn 9
Leaving Kielya with D'hol, Ma'din grinned to himself with
satisfaction. The little innuendos had been caught, but D'hol hadn't
been able to respond effectively with Kielya present. The little barbs
had been amusing, at least for himself. Kielya had let slip a few
things too, especially about a "little brother". _That_ he had to
explore. The old man was still prolific, apparently, and that pretty
little slip of a girl had given him another son that he just had to
meet.
He remembered Jeyme, especially remembered her scantily clad, when
he'd last seen her turns ago. He hadn't been able to pry the reasons
the pair was apart from his sire, nor had he answered his questions
about Kielya's revelation of 'Papa drank alot'. Sweet Faranth, but the
girl was a gem of information, but little about the reasons behind her
information. Well, he could very well pry. There was a puzzle to put
together here, and he wanted to know it, if only to prick at the old
man a bit more.
It only took asking a few questions to get directed to where her
dragon was and consequently, where she was quartered. Boot heels
clicking, he went where he was directed and rapped on the door,
leaning on the frame as he waited.
"Dheymin, watch your sister," Jeyme instructed as she scrambled up out
of the floor where the three of them had been playing with small
animal figurines fashioned from wood. She glanced back at Dheymin and
Ayeme to see Dheymin instructing his little sister not to chew on his
favorite canine figurine.
Swinging open the door, the comfortable smile faded to something a bit
more cautious as her eyes landed on a very familiar face. "Ma'din,"
she hadn't seen D'hol's son in Turns, "what brings you by?"
"Jeyme, isn't it?" His gaze flicked over her. She was older, he
immediately saw, but still pretty. "I understand that I have a
brother." His head tilted, his lips lifting slightly.
She didn't budge from the doorway to let him in. Instead, she asked,
"Does D'hol know you're here?"
"Just came from his office. He said I'd have to discuss it with you."
He offered a wide smile that fell quite short of innocent.
**Let Yumath's know I'm going to give him a kick in the shin later.**
Jeyme told Quinneth, smirking a little as she felt the green reach out
to Yumath to tell him those exact words.
"You've got matching bruises, you know that. Makes you look even more
like him." She glanced over her shoulder at Dheymin and Ayeme before
leaning in and lowering her voice. "You can see him as long as you
behave."
"Of course I know that." His reply was dry. "I've been told that by
every single person that's ever known him that I look like him." He
followed her gaze over her shoulder, unable to see much more than the
top of a dark head."Behave myself? You might be asking too much of
me." His smile became wider. "So, tell me, I'm curious. Were you or
another woman the reason Kielya tells me that her Papa drank a lot?"
"Kielya's Papa made his bed, and he's been lying in it ever since."
Jeyme quipped with smile that said Ma'din wouldn't get much
information from her about the topic. The greenrider took a step back
and gestured for the Dragonsfall brownrider to enter.
"So got tired of old and wrinkly, hmm? Can't say I blame you." He
smirked and walked in, looking down at the young boy. He tilted his
head, then crouched. "Hey there."
Ayeme and Dheymin froze at the arrival of someone new. Dheymin stared
at Ma'din intensely for a moment, "Papa?"
Ma'din jerked back a bit. "What? Shards no!" He glanced up at Jeyme,
annoyed, then looked down and ruffled Dheymin's hair. "I'm Ma'din. I'm
your big brother and I'm going to teach you how to do all the things
your mama doesn't want you to learn."
"Oh," Dheymin said, seemingly working on the puzzle of how he had a
brother he'd never met and why this strange man looked so much like
his Papa. "Do you have a dragon?"
"Mama," Ayeme didn't warm up to the stranger quite so easily, and
instead left the toys behind to go hide behind Jeyme's legs.
"Yes. A big brown one." Ma'din ignored the little girl, merely
flicking a glance at her with a questioning expression. "And he'd love
to meet you."
Jeyme swung Ayeme up onto her hip and crossed the room where she could
keep an eye on Ma'din and Dheymin but give them a semblence of
privacy.
"Yumath lets me climb on him," Dheymin said, interest over this man's
brown dragon growing. "What's your dragon's name?"
"My dragon's name is Aznith." Ma'din grinned. "He's quicker than
Yumath and can fly loops in the air."
Dheymin wasn't sure if he believed this new brother, because he was
sure that there was no dragon better than Yumath. "Can I see him?"
"He's waiting to meet you, " Ma'din was pleased at the interest, and a
genuine smile spread over his mouth. "But your mama had to say it's
okay. " He glanced over his shoulder at Jeyme. "What do you say,
mama?" His brows quirked up and a devilish gleam flickered in his
eyes. "Maybe a ride later, too."
She quirked an eyebrow at him that said 'in your dreams.' If D'hol
hadn't turned him out on his head the moment that Ma'din showed up at
Dolphin Cove then it must mean that the bronzerider was okay with him
being around Dheymin, Jeyme reasoned.
"You may go see Aznith, but no rides today," this was, after all, a
trial, she thought.
"Maybe next time then, squirt." He ruffled the boy's hair again. "Come
on, I'll take you to see him. " Ma'din wasn't quite as sure of himself
around a child this small, but how bad could it be?
He rose, facing Jeyme. They look she gave him hadn't phased him for an
instant. "I'll bring him back in one piece. " He tilted his head, the
gleam remaining in his eyes. "Not even a little curious?"
Jeyme laughed, "Zero percent curious."
"I'll have to work on that."
