"I like the sunset, the colors are so pretty." Zaeryn's face was turned toward the sky, which was streaked with reds and oranges. "Sunrise is nice too, but not like sunsets." She turned to Asley and smiled.
"Yeah the colors are nice. I like how it contrasts against the water-the blues, greens, and blacks. It's like two different worlds meet and melt into each other," she commented while watching. The printer wasn't much of an illustrator. She couldn't capture things like this. Her mind drifted to young Sahna for a moment and she wondered how the girl was doing these days.
"They don't really meet," Zaeryn replied, literal as ever. "It's just the sky and the sea, or the land. But - prettier than usual. If I tried to make something with those colours, I'd probably be told they'd clash."
"MM I don't know. Depends. Sort of like fire and ice." Asley wasn't an expert on art things though so she didn't want to go into more. "You might ask that artist fellow. He does illustrations for me. Perhaps he could give you advice on coloring?"
"Maybe he could make me a chart. What other people think matches." Zaeryn didn't think she had _that_ bad an eye for colour. She shrugged to herself.
"It's nice out here, the air is clean. And - I like spending time with you." She didn't say that often. Lots of people were too much for her to want to spend too much time with.
"I like spending time with you too," Asley left it at that since they had reached the point where she had to be careful. Things could be misinterpreted. And if they were, it could mean trouble.
Zaeryn smiled, pleased at the reply. "Do you like to walk in the water?" She gestured toward the shoreline, which stretched out in front of them. "I don't really like sand in my toes, but I like walking on the edge where the waves wash up occasionally."
"Sometimes I do. It does get your feet squidgy though." She wiggled her toes, thinking. "The noise...is soothing. Makes me sleepy. And sometimes you can find pretty shells. I've made them into necklaces and stuff. Not anything fancy like maybe you could do but.."
"Shells are pretty. Besides, sometimes simple things are nicer than fancy ones. Like - the view. It's nicer than a painting or tapestry, don't you think?"
"Aye there's a reason why those things are always inspired from reality." The printer could appreciate the distinction though art could be beautiful. She shook her head, pulling fingers through her hair for a moment.
"Yes, but reality is better," Zaeryn replied. "Look at people. You couldn't imagine some people. Like you for example…" For some reason she was blushing.
"Oh? Why not?" That was an interesting statement and Asley felt like it was something she could elaborate on.
Zaeryn hesitated. "Because you're different. Not strange different like me, but different. You see things how other people don't."
"I don't think you're strange at all. But thanks for thinking I'm perceptive. I try to be, sometimes, when things aren't making me angry." Her temper was a fact of life though and she had learned to deal with it over the turns, though it still wasn't the best most days.
"It's hard not to be angry sometimes. People can be very frustrating." Zaeryn sighed.
"There was a point when I just wanted to be left alone. I figured out, though, it can hurt you more." Asley was still very careful though about who she associated with. "It's good to have a small circle of friends you can depend on."
"That's true," Zaeryn agreed. "I have some friends who don't care that I'm different. And you. We're friends aren't we?" She hoped they were.
"We are, Zaeryn." She put her arm around the older smith and looked off into the sunset, thinking. Asley thought about how this was different than others before. It wasn't a bad thing, though. Not at all.
