T'nom

T'nom

When the door opened he greeted the woman inside with a smile.

"Dazien," T'nom stated, glancing over her shoulder to make sure she
didn't have _other_ company. So far he'd timed all his visits to make
sure Pierka and Z'ku were not around, but he'd been in more of a hurry
today and hadn't checked both of their schedules as closely as he
normally did.

"Is this a good time to visit?" He'd already expressed to the foster
mother in earlier visits that he wished his time with Kazom to be just
the two of them, without others around.

"He's sleepy, but you can give it a try." Dazien quietly pointed to the crib.
Since the little one was growing, he tended to eat and sleep a lot. Of course
that was expected. Watching the bronzerider as she carefully embroidered a
handkerchief, the fostermother didn't move out of her chair since it creaked.

T'nom entered and made his way over to the crib. Kazom was laying in
his crib, trying to grab hold of his feet with one hand while sucking
his thumb with the other. The sight made T'nom chuckle. At the sound
of his dad, Kazom rolled towards the crib, looked at T'nom and smiled.
He immediately starting fussing and making noises which T'nom knew
meant he wanted to be held.

Reaching in, he picked up the babe and held him. T'nom breathed in the
sight and smell of his son. It pleased him to no end that his son
recognized him. He wondered if that would change once he left Dolphin
Cove. He would definitely see Kazom less.

"Has he been doing well with the mushed up food he started?" T'nom
asked, turning to look at Dazien as Kazom laid his head on his
father's shoulder.

"Some days he likes it, others he doesn't but that's normal. He'll get used
to it in time. And he's making much more noise." That was amusing to no
end. Dazien had noise most of the time between him and Felsha. The older
girl was cooing to the baby constantly which stimulated Kazom. It worked out
well.

Just then Kazom let out a babble of sounds which drew T'nom's
attention. "I see," he smiled. Pleased that Kazom was making more
noises now. Truly T'nom hadn't known what to do with Kazom when he'd
been so little. Now that he was more responsive, things seemed easier.

Patting his back, T'nom turned to Dazien. "I really came to see you
and Kazom and to tell you I'm transferring to Dragonsfall. I still
very much want to be part of Kazom's life, however."

That was interesting. Dazien wondered just why the boy would go so far and to
a place so different, but she didn't question it. It wasn't her
business or her decision.
"Ah...well I wish you success in that."

"Thank you." He replied. Then turning his attention toward Kazom, he
placed a hand on the baby's back.

"Kazom, daddy loves you very much, but he's moving away for awhile. I
_promise_ I will be back as much as I can. I might not be able to come
as often as I have been, but I will be here as much as I absolutely
can. Dazien will take _very_ good care of you, just like she has
been." He swallowed a bit. It was harder than he thought to say all
this to his son. He knew Kazom didn't really understand it all, but he
_had_ to tell him.

Looking up to the foster-mother he blinked a moment to clear his
emotions. "If you _ever_ need anything, please know you can contact me
just as much as you can Pierka. I will be here to do whatever my son
needs."

Fosterparents were necessary in the Weyrs due to the fact that rider parents
were often busy with duties. They were also necessary because in a
Pass, they often
died. Dazien was prepared for this eventuality and wondered if the young parents
ever really realized that when she committed to a child, she committed
to raising them
completely. They were hers-for all intents and purposes. The Weyr
provided everything
she needed so she didn't worry about it. "He'll be fine. Children are
quite strong. So don't
worry."

"Thank you. I do appreciate that. I just want to be as much a part of
his life as I can be," T'nom replied.
Little Kazom, meanwhile, had fallen asleep on T'nom's shoulder.

"Looks like it's time to go. I'll be back as soon as I can to see him
again." T'nom walked over toward the crib and as gently as he could he
laid his son down. Kazom rolled slightly to his side and with a sigh
continued to sleep.

"I'll see you soon, son," T'nom whispered, placing a tender kiss and
touch on the boy's head.
