The Hatching Grounds was always the best place during a hurricane.
Sh'del stood along the tideline of the beach, watching the rolling
clouds that were almost upon them.

}:At least there won't be threadfall today,:{ Loranth reminded his lifemate.

**True, very true** So at least no one would die today, though that
didn't mean no one would be in any danger today. A rumble of thunder
overhead told the Weyrlingmaster that there wasn't much time before
the hurricane would be over them. He turned to watch the weyrlings
making their way from the exposed barracks to the much safer Hatching
Grounds.

Naryath stopped to watch the clouds. }: So pretty,:{ she remarked, her
neck craned up.

**Maybe, but we need to get to shelter,** G'dori replied and tried to
nudge her to move. Being a weyrbrat from Dolphin Cove, he had plenty of
previous experience of hurricanes and knew just _how_ dangerous they
could be.

Chaneth was standing outside the barracks, encouraging the weyrling
dragonets to make their way across. He would carry any who really
would not move if he had to. Mostly he was sending reassurances to the
most upset dragonets.

L'pin was accompanying the weyrlings. Satai was walking with her head
down, flinching slightly at the thunder's sound. He placed a
reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You'll be fine inside the Hatching
Grounds. Just concentrate on keeping Talureth calm. Your fear will
spike hers, but you'll both be better when you're inside." The
greenrider sniffled, but kept moving. He kept murmuring steady
reassurances.

Saidrene had grown up at an island Weyr, which received its fair share
of nasty storms and hurricanes, so the blustery weather was not
something that bothered her too much. Ashareth stayed close to
Saidrene's side, her wedge-shaped head brushing the teenturner's thigh
with every step. She wondered what they would do on the Hatching Sands
while they waited for the hurricane to pass.

Zith strode beside J'ackt, eyes on the clouds over them. }: Very dark.
Very windy. :{

**Hurricane.** J'ackt replied shortly, thankful that he wasn't out in
the open for this one. Living near Emerald Falls, he'd never had to go
through a hurricane, but since arriving here, he had. He was well
acquainted with the routine of safety. Before he'd been more
interested in trying to observe it, but he had Zith and wasn't going
to chance thinking about staying out in the weather any longer than he
had to.

}: Hurricane... :{ Zith tasted the word in his mind and clicked his
teeth together. }: Yes. Sounds dangerous. :{ He peered at the orderly
line ahead of him and immediately snapped a demand. }: Hurry it up, up
there! Line's too slow!:{

}:There's time, little one,:{ Loranth touched his almost black nose to
the young bronze.

Behind Zith, Imarith leapt into the air and unfurled her baby wings.
}:Look at me!:{

**You're going to get blown over and then you'll get hurt,** Alina
replied sternly. She cast a wary eye at the black sky as the first few
fat drops of rain splattered against the sandy trail. This was a
hurricane, sure, but it was still just a _storm_. Hiding in the
Hatching Caverns seemed like too much. **Start behaving yourself!**

"Naryath!" G'dori gave his dragonet a push but she was still
transfixed of what was going on in the sky.

}: Look at the colours of those winds!:{

"Those winds will blow you against the cliff sides," Ged was getting
nervous and looked around for weyrling staff to help him.

}:Narayath is being slow,:{ Chaneth told L'pin, before turning his
attention to the green.

}:You should keep going inside,:{ he told her. }:Out here is bad.:{

L'pin walked over to G'dori. "Do you need anything?"

"Yes, help to get her moving inside. She's not budging," Ged replied
with a little bit of desperation. It didn't look good for his
dragonhealer's career if he couldn't even make his own dragon to
listen to him.

}:Narayath, move it!:{ Loranth wasn't a bossy type of dragon, but the
brown could get his point across at times. He came over to give the
little green a shove up her backside.

"Come on, keep things orderly, there's no rush!" Sh'del nonetheless
came over to the line, to make sure everyone kept going forward. He'd
been around too long at this Weyr to know staying in the exposed
barracks could be dangerous if the tidal surge was great.

}:Why is everyone being so rude?:{ Ashareth inquired as she forcefully
bumped her nose into Saidrene to punctuate her question.

"I think it is a lack of common sense." Saidrene murmured back, her tone
dry.

Zith peered back at Loranth. }: They should listen to me. I'm the
bronze. I should be in charge. :{ He tried to push forwards towards
the head of the line, but was restrained by a mental rebuke from his
life mate.

J'ackt was far calmer than his pushy bronze, almost nonchalant. **Let
Loranth pretend he's in charge. It makes him feel good.**

There was visible displeasure as Zith slowed down to walk beside
J'ackt. }: Fine. This time. But next time I will be. :{

Loranth did the dragon equivalent of rolling his eyes. Being a calm brown,
he was more amused than angry at Zith's remark. }:Yes, you may be a
bronze_but_you are not the only bronze in this clutch, you are not an adult
and you will find that no matter your colour, you do have to listen to
those in charge of your wings, some of which you will find, in time,
include browns, blues and greens. And should they be in the position of the
wing second, third or even the Weyrlingmaster you_will_listen.:{

His words caught Sh'del's attention. He asked and received Loranth's
explanation when the brown gave it. Frowning, he made a mental note to do
something about that sort of attitude. But at a later time. Right now he
had a clutch to get into a safe place.

**Loranth, tell Chaneth to give Zith a hard shove up the backside, that
should settle him right up** See how the snotty little bronze liked that
move. Sh'del would have loved to watch it but there was a tiny green that
cowered down with the strong clap of thunder overhead. She was already too
big for even a large man like Sh'del to carry but he could help encourage
her to move, and help her lifemate push her along.

Naryath finally started to walk again and Ged let a sigh of relief.

Chaneth received the message and now that Narayath was moving, headed up
the line. First he stopped to nudge Talureth towards the Hatching Grounds.
}:Almost there, little one. It will be stiller inside.:{

Then he heard Loranth's instruction about Zith.

The blue suggested to the bronze. }:Be an example. Bossing them may make
them more afraid, but if they see that you are progressing towards the
barracks without fear, some will fall in line behind you.:{

The little bronze grumbled, but complied. He was the bronze and even
if he wasn't the only one, he was the best one as far as he was
concerned. One day he would be the boss of all of them. He huffed,
turning an eye to the Weyrleader's weyr with open ambition before
nudging the green in front of him. }: Almost there. :{

}: Stop poking me! :{ Naryath snapped at him, giving the bronze an angry
glare. Ged suppressed a smirk.

Sh'del bit the inside of his lip hard to keep from laughing at the little
green's expression. Instead, he looked up at the rolling skies and the way
the
wind was already pressing the trees to one side even though he figured the
eye of
the storm wouldn't hit them for another few candlemarks. "Almost there!" he
shouted
over the winds. "Keep going!" Already the head of the group was inside the
still
hatching grounds. It was perfect for young hatchlings, high enough from the
tidal
surge and deep within the stone, so not much sound would reach them there.

What they would come out to might be another story.

G'dori settled down to sit his back against Naryath. He looked around
himself and asked: "Did anybody think of bringing deck of cards with them?"
It might be a long time they were cooped up in the cave.

Naryath reached the inside of the cavern. After finding a spot where she
could still look out from the entrance and observe the storm, she just
blobbed
down to her belly.

The rest of the dragonets followed on the heels of the green. Sh'del let
out the breath he was holding as his charges were almost all in the safe
place.
