In about three hours we will have Air Conditioning!

*does happy dance*

We're into autumn but the weather is still in the 30+C (91F+) so we're still baking on a low heat.  But finally the air-con arrived this morning and the guy to instal it is arriving in a little over an hour.

With hubby on restricted fluids of less than a litre (2.133 pints) a day, it isn't much fun for him on a warm day, never mind a hot one.

Just wanted to share - I'm so excited - can you tell???

I'm excited for you!
Though I've felt as if I've had air conditioning in my apartment all winter.

This one ios one of those reverse cycle ones, not sure what you guys would call them, they cool in summer and heat in winter.  Though the gas fire heats the house pretty well when we need it to in winter, and our winters are no way near as severe as you guys suffer through.  (Thank God!)

Autumn isn't a word for us?? :D Who has been pulling your leg, lady?

It's still about 70 out... was 80 earlier today. I'm told it'll be down in the 30's later this week... which means from 27 to 0 for those metric types. :D

You guys always say Fall....

Since when?
I'll admit that this year I used the word "fall" more often but that's b/c I had a child named Autumn in the class and didn't want to confuse the children too badly.

So you're being diplomatic...

And you're just lazy...LOL

I haven't heard anyone use it....

It depends on the part of the country. I've lived all over the USA, and different areas use different terminology. I tend to use the one that fits where I am living at the moment. (It was the surprise of my life when I took a linguistics class and discovered some of the slang from my previous state of residence was being studied as unique examples. Such as ticked and schlepp.)

Great.  Race over to the 'When Are the Crayon Awards?' FAQ and amend this, then. :)

October 1st - Start Fall Nominations
October 15th - Start Fall Voting
November 1st - Announce Fall Winners

Not that that'll help since your seasons are all back-to-front anyway.

Bree

:p See aforementioned "I'm lazy" post. :D

Though I am totally confused as to why y'all are trying to convince us which words we DON'T use. ;)

We are inundated with American tv and I've spent plenty of hours ... er ... researching.  I've never yet heard 'autumn' used on any US program.

Bree

But... that doesn't answer my question. Which was... why do y'all care? *g* I just thought it was awful funny that Kaysea translated it for us! I've never had someone translate 'autumn' for me before, so I never realized that it was supposedly not a US term.
