Description: Inarys comes to ask Kobias for help and the old friends catch up a bit.
Location: Hidden Meadows
Date: month 8, day 5 of Turn 7
Kobias had been working hard in molding the latest saddle order he'd
taken. This one was for a slightly larger beast and had taken longer
to make fit exactly as needed.
Reaching a sleeve up, he brushed it across his forehead to wipe the
sweat away. The tanner craft rooms, set off from the main area of the
hold, were full to bursting with hides, tools, and smells. Most of the
time it was the smells that kept people away, but there were always
some who were willing to venture to his 'office' regardless of the
odor.
Inarys knocked the door. "Hello, Kobias!" he greeted.
Kobias looked up at the sound. "Ah, Inarys. Come in. How are you this
fine day?" He greeted his brother-in-law with a smile. He and Inarys
went way back. He was glad that Mirdella had chosen him over her other
suitor options. Kobias set down the tools he'd been using to trim the
edges of the hide.
"I'm good. I have job for you, we need new tack for the plow-beasts,"
Inarys replied with a smile.
"Ah," Kobias replied, wiping his hands on the rag he had near him.
"That shouldn't take me too long. Do you have the old one or an idea
of size for the one you need?" He moved around the workbench towards
Inarys.
"I have the old ones," Inarys replied.
"Excellent. May I see what piece it is that you need." Kobias reached
a hand out to Inarys to receive the old piece.
"I have the old one here," Inarys replied and pulled out part of the
tack. "You can see where it's worn worst. You think there's a way to
reinforce it so it won't wear down so quickly?"
Kobias held the strips of leather in his hands as he examined them. It
appeared that the one spot of the reins had worn away where it rubbed
against part of the bridle. This set was beyond repair, but seeing as
how it had worn, Kobias figured he could add extra leather to the spot
to keep the reins from wearing so quickly.
"I think we can reinforce them. I should have a good sturdy piece of
leather here that will be perfect for this. It's been aged and treated
already and just so happens to be a bit tough. I'll also add some
extra padding to the same spot," he touched where the old reins had
worn away. "That should keep them from wearing too quickly. I should
be able to have these ready for you by tomorrow morning. Will that
do?" Kobias raised his eyes to look at Inarys. He knew that their
livelihood depended on the animals so he was making this job a top
priority. He might be able to finish it sooner, but he'd hoped to add
a little extra special touch for his old friend.
"Sure, that's fine. We have spare set," Inarys replied. "You haven't
dined with Mirdella and me for awhile," he moved from one subject to
another. "Perhaps it's high time for it again." The two men were close
in age and had grown together.
"Well, I won't pass up a nice meal when it's offered," Kobias chortled
a bit. "How about day after tomorrow? I can bring these by when I
come?" He held up the worn tack in his hand.
"That's just fine," Inarys replied with a smile. Belately he thought
that he should have checked with his wife before inviting her brother
for diner. **Oh, well, what's done is done,** he thought. Now she
wouldn't been able to avoid it and he did know how to manage his wife.
"Sounds great. I look forward to it. I'd best get back to work and get
these new reins going so I'll have them done for you in time," Kobias
replied.
"Be seeing you later then," Inarys nodded and left with a waive of goodbye.
