Description: Devyn and N'call eat lunch together, and a crazy, psycho Weyrlingmaster shows up
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 7, day 1 of Turn 7
Devyn had never seen so many people in the Dining Cavern at one time.
Normally she tried to miss the busiest time of the day in the Cavern.
She would rather go hungry for a little while longer in an attempt to
avoid such a crowd. Today, however, with Wingdrills changed to a
different time, she had little choice in the matter.
Turning with her tray in hand she looked for an available seat, and
the first one she found was next to a bronzerider she had recently
become better acquainted with. Of course, he seemed much more sober at
this moment than he had before.
"N'call. How are you?" She said, putting her tray down and taking the
seat beside of him.
N'call smiled when she slid into the seat next to him. "Much better
than the last time you saw me. Sorry if I did or said anything
offensive." He was a bit embarrassed about how drunk he'd gotten the
night of the party.
Devyn smiled in return, she remembered well how drunk N'call had been,
"Well, at least you were a nice drunk, though, right? Helped me clean
up and everything."
N'call laughed. "I'm surprised I didn't make a pass at you. I'm told
I'm an overly friendly drunk. Or at least of woken up places I
shouldn't be in the past." He waggled his eyebrows at her in a mock
leer.
"I think you did kiss me on the cheek, but that is pretty harmless as
far as the Weyr goes." Devyn chuckled back in response as she started
working on the food before her.
"Very true," he agreed with a smiled. "Surely I can do better than
that," he added as he popped a piece of fried tuber into his mouth and
chewed thoughtfully. "Of course there would need to be wine."
Devyn cocked an eyebrow, "Yes, I am sure you could do better." A grin
followed it as she added, "Why would you need wine?"
"Why to loosen my inhibitions of course," his emerald green eyes
twinkled. "If I'm going to try to tip over another man's weyrmate," he
waggled his eyebrows and couldn't help laughing.
The greenrider shook her head with a grin, "You don't seem very
inhibited to begin with, N'call." Devyn had met very few bronzeriders
that needed help loosening up around women. It seemed naturally born
within bronzeriders to be confident individuals, mirroring the
leadership qualities of their dragons.
N'call put his arm around her and whispered in her ear. "You know that
was an excuse right?" He kissed her temple and added teasingly. "It's
to loosen up _your_ inhibitions."
J'darin never came into the dining cavern, but he had unexpectedly
found himself with free time in between classes, and oddly, no
immediate crisis demanding his attention. Knowing that Devyn often
took dinner with the rest of the Weyr when he wasn't home, and that
drills were on an odd schedule this sevenday, he thought he might find
her in the dining cavern with the rest of the crowd.
Instead of sending Oak, though, he just went looking for her himself.
When he walked into the dining caverns, his first thought was wow,
there are alot of weyrfolk here. How will I find her? It took some
time, but he walked a little in between tables and finally found where
she was sitting, crammed up against N'call.
Wait... what?
His eyes narrowed and refocused on the scene in front of him, not sure
he had seen it right.
She was snuggled up with N'call and he was leaning in close... kissing her?
He took a few steps closer and said loudly, knowing they hadn't
noticed him walking up in their involvement with each other.
"Well, I can see I'm not needed here." It came out quite snarky,
anger ruling his tongue and not sadness. He knew it! He would
never be good enough for her!
A vicious sounding, "Have _fun_tonight." He turned his back on the
pair of them, not staying for anything.
"Woah," N'call looked stunned and snatched his arm back from around
Devyn. "Sorry," he said with a rather stunned look at the greenrider.
They hadn't done anything or meant anything at all but eyes all over
the room were turning toward where they sat as they watched the former
Weyrleader almost stomp out of the room.
At first Devyn's mouth fell open but then it quickly snapped shut and
clenched together, a tic forming along her clenched jaw as she glanced
up at the people who had turned to stare at them.
"I am so sorry," she ground out to N'call as she watched J'darin's
form disappear from view. How could he have come in and embarrassed
her like that? She and N'call had been innocently enjoying each
other's company, with a little harmless flirting on the side.
**Shards, is this the Weyr or not?** She thought, but it quickly came
to her that her hot-headed Weyrlingmaster was originally from a Hold
and had been raised to be a man who kept "his woman" in line.
"Don't worry about me," he said holding up a hand. "You should go
after him." As far as he was concerned they'd only been having a
little harmless flirtation with no intentions of taking it any further
and he didn't want her to get into any kind of trouble with
the Weyrlimaster on _his_ account.
"Thanks, N'call, I will talk with you later." She gave his shoulder a
squeeze as she stood up and followed the path her weyrmate had taken
out of the Dining Cavern.
