It had snowed the day before and was still so frigid outside that most
of it had stuck around, despite the clear blue sky and brilliantly
shining sun. It made the Weyr look as if it had been frosted with
sparkles, and it might have even been enjoyable except that Devyn was
_hot_. A light sheen of perspiration cast a glow on her skin as she
stood on the ground level ledge that Ellyth and Hasaarth shared,
overlooking the rest of the Weyrbowl. Below freezing, it was, and yet
Devyn stood there in short sleeves, her breaths coming in soft, puffy
gasps that left wasps of vapor floating in the air.

A shrill dragon's scream pierced through the air, effectively breaking
the peaceful, serene picture. Devyn did not bother with a coat, she
trudged out into the snow, her knee-high riding boots protecting her
feet as she moved toward the flight rooms. She had been waiting for
days for Ellyth to finally decide to rise. She was sure that Hasaarth
had been waiting for it as well since the green had been nothing but
prickly towards him lately.

Having fed the day before, Ellyth flew to the top of the Weyr and
clung to Weyrrim, blasting a shrill shriek across the Weyr once again.

N'call got up from the hides he was studying when he heard the cry and
almost instant answer from Haloth. **Who** he challenged his lifemate.

}:Ellyth rises and I will have her:{

N'call chuckled. He knew the rider and her 'mate but she was a lovely
thing and he was fine with it if Haloth actually came through. **You
always say that,**

A triumphant bass roar echoed from the ledge he shared with Ellyth.

}:MINE!! SHE IS MINE!:{ Hasaarth launched himself almost straight
into the air after her, spending precious time gaining height.

The green had been feisty and tormenting him for days. He would have her now!

J'darin's blood instantly boiled with both possessiveness and the hot,
steaming fire his weyrmate always stirred in him. **CATCH HER! SHE IS
OURS!** He was done with sharing her, even on Flights! He hadn't
liked finding out she had spent time alone with another bronzerider,
though he was sure it had been his fault. He still had
not.liked.it.one.bit.

He would make her his/their's today!

}:My beauty. Fly well, I will catch you!:{ He promised her, his eyes
whirling with desire.

Nirreth had joined the chase too. }: How presumptuous, :{ he snorted
at Hasaarth's declaration. His bronze hide shone after recent bath. He
was the Weyr's leading bronze and knew it.

Sometimes bronze hide wasn't all there was when it came to
greenflights however. Jodeth heard her and the brown came at her call.
He knew her well and didn't seem fazed when he saw Nirreth, Hasaarth
and the rest. Resting on the ledge, he spread out his wings and
stretched them, getting ready for the chase ahead. The snow didn't
bother him either since he had shelled and Hatched in it and had never
left it. His eyes began to whirl faster even as his rider quietly
entered the flight cots. This was not a time to broadcast an entrance.

Ellyth was pleased by the experienced males in her flight and she
screamed her challenge to them before pushing off from the Weyr rim,
her talons sending pebbles skidding down the rock face as she took to
the skies. For a moment she let the mating flight rage and adrenaline
fuel her, making her feel as if she had an endless supply of energy as
she rocketed upward, gaining altitude quickly. Her rapid ascent made
Devyn sway on her feet as their minds locked together.

Aznith appeared the moment Ellyth rose into the air, bellowing a brassy cry
in response to her challenge. The brown didn't waste time in sliding between
others who had leapt upwards, sweeping his wings to rise higher to
chase the green.

Below, Ma'din stepped into the semi-circle around Devyn, his blue eyes
narrowed as they locked on to the woman. The other men around him didn't
matter. His sole focus was her.

N'call had been lounging against the wall as the other riders gathered around
Devyn. He didn't miss the fierce intensity of the brass bellows
through the Weyr.

It made him chuckle when Haloth was discounted as a major player.
After all _he_ had won gold and _he_ had sired gold. He had entered
his prime and they both knew it. Haloth bellowed with the others and
sprang into the sky after
the glowing green.

Hasaarth too was in his prime and had proven himself time and time
again with gold mates. But this green shared his ledge...she was
_his_ ... NO one else would have her again but him! He growled as he
moved up into the pack chasing her. She was so fast...so lovely! He
was trailing behind her with some of the other larger dragons after
her burst of speed, but he had stamina and desire. He watched her,
waiting to see where she would go next.

J'darin felt the lines between him and Hasaarth blur and disappear. He
shoved a rider out of the way and moved close to his weyrmate. She
was _theirs_.. they would win her today!

Faster than the lumbering bronzes, Jodeth surged forward. The brown
would take full advantage of his size and their limitations. Ignoring
the others, his thoughts went to her and only her. She was his wings,
his sky, his clouds. Her green spark was what he needed. Putting his
stretched muscles to good use, he got himself into the air and in
place. He would not be left behind.

Ellyth's attention was immediately caught by Jodeth. The brown had
caught her before and was always a promising mate. There was also
Hasaarth, the one she shared a ledge with.... But then of course how
could she over look Nirreth? It wasn't every green that was chased by
the _Weyrleader_. All very flattering.

The green rolled acrobatically through the air, calling to the males

behind her as she shot upward again. Haloth, yes, now there was a
handsome bronze. Ellyth looked at them over her shoulder. Azinth was a
dragon with determination, that was for certain, not very flirty, just
determined to win. How was a green to choose with all of these
deserving males?

Haloth crooned admiration to the glowing green and he moved to the
side where there was suddenly a hole in the mass of dragons chasing.

No, she would be HIS! Hasaarth growled at Haloth as he soared
strongly after _his_ mate. She was amazing! How had he not noticed
how beautiful, how graceful, how much he wanted to have her?
}:Beautifully done, lovely one! Choose me! :{ He added his own
croon, dodging a blue who had tried to soar up after this feisty wily
green.

Aznith dipped to slide past a bronze and a blue, his whirling eyes
intense and his focus narrowed to the green prize in front of him. At
her call, he rumbled back a croon and followed upwards, jostling
against the other males to get into a better position.

Jodeth heard Hasaarth's begging and wondered at it. The brown would
never beg. If he was overlooked, then so be it. Still, he would do everything
he could to have her. She was worthy and precious. Seeing them falling together
as they had before, he dove down to where she was rolling, pulling himself
through a cloud. Would she be there on the other side? He let his sense of
smell guide him since he couldn't see her anymore.

Nirreth barrel rolled past a blue who's strenght was already failing.
He still have plenty of reserves left.
}:Choose me, pretty lady. You know I'm the best.:{

Ellyth took a wild dive, throwing her wings aloft, letting chance and
fate decide the winner as she enjoyed the free-falling sensation.
}:Catch me.:{ She purred to the males.

Haloth barrel rolled from his position and caught the green before any
of the others could get to her. He twined necks with her and bugaled
his victory as he fell through the sky with his prize.

On the ground, N'call swept Devyn into his arms and carried her into
the nearest room.

Shocked and completely disappointed with the winner, J'darin and
Hasaarth both made frustrated noises. Hasaarth roared his frustration
to the skies. To have his OWN mate taken right in front of him made
him all kinds of furious. He was glad it had not been Nirreth, but he
was still disappointed and angry.

J'darin could not believe the outcome. He stood there in total shock
for a full 5 minutes, fighting off reaching hands. That was _his_
weyrmate! And that was the bronzerider she'd been hanging around a
little lately. His only option a flight moth or strong drink, he
finally did submit to the willing female hands that offered him
release.

Nirreth backwinged to stop his momentum and then turned around to head
home. Loosing always stung. On the ground, G'nir picked himself a
flight moth.
