Sure, Everything's Fine

Writers: AL, Chelle
Date Posted: 16th June 2014

Characters: Kaya, Chupsin
Description: Kaya sees Chupsin for a checkup.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 7, day 1 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Karhal, Wirnan

Now that Karhal was out of his Infirmary, Chupsin could focus on
everything else. While he was glad the Guard Captain
hadn't died on him, he secretly wondered if the man would ever admit
that he had saved his life. Not that the crafter wanted
credit-it was his duty after all-he just wanted respect where it was
due. Washing his hands and realizing that his next appointment
should be in soon, he looked down and saw that it was time for the
woman's checkup.

She entered the room with a small but pleasant smile and nodded. "Hello,
Healer Chupsin." It was a standard visiting, a well checkup that she
was used to receiving. Without being asked, she sat down upon the table
that had been prepared.

"Lady Kaya..." he put down the schedule and and grabbed up his notes
hide. "How have you been?" His eyes focused on his patient, giving her
his attention.

"I've been all right." Things had been improving with Wirnan, for which
she was grateful. They weren't fantastic, but they were better. "Just
keeping busy."

"That's very good. Does that mean you've been active then?" Of course it
was safe to say in any marriage, but if they had, Chupsin would probably
need to do a full exam so he always asked.

There was a short pause. How was she going to answer that question?
"Not lately. He's been so distraught about Lady Benani and working long
hours as the search continues." Everyone was.

Nodding, the healer made a note. "It'll be a shorter exam then. Since it's
been some time and you haven't had any complaints as far as pain, soreness,
or bleeding-I'm going to say you're probably not going to have to worry about
complications after what happened. I won't know till I see but I think
everything should be back to normal."

Darkness shadowed over Kaya's face and she nodded. Suddenly she wanted
to flee from the room, bury herself in her quarters and stay there.
Somehow, she managed to refrain from bolting, but she suddenly lapsed
into silence and merely let the healer do his job.

Chupsin knew it was hard talking about things, especially for the women,
but it was his job. "Lady Kaya, it's a good thing. You can have children
again if you choose when you're ready. And if you're not...I'd be glad to talk with
you about it if you need." He wasn't a mindhealer by specialty but he had some of
the training. As a Hold healer, it was necessary to do everything. Making notes,
Chupsin moved back and prepared to do the exam.

Her lips thinned as he continued to converse like it had been nothing.
She nodded again, wishing he'd just be quiet and do his duty so she could
go. She didn't want to think about what had happened - despite being
able to move on to some extent, it still hurt more than she - and
probably Wirnan - was willing to admit to him.

The similarities between what had happened to Kaya and what had happened
to his own wife made Chupsin pause. He had been able to save Kaya but not Alivya.
Neither of the children lived, but she was not incapable. He didn't bring up his loss,
though, and remained professionally detached as he confirmed his earlier thought.
She was healthy and whole. There was some scarring from the earlier episode but
it wasn't extensive enough to be an issue. When he finished, he nodded and allowed
her to get herself back together while he walked around the screen to make notes.

It didn't take her long. Kaya was glad such exams were only a yearly
event most of the time. It was odd having a stranger touch her, even in
a medical situation. She emerged once fully clothed and turned her gaze
to the healer to wait in case he had any instructions for her.

"Everything looks fine. You shouldn't be having any problems." He gave her
an encouraging look before leaning back against the counter. "I wish you and
yours well, Lady Kaya." His eyes fastened on her for a moment before he put
his notes into the deep pocket of his purple healer robes.

"Thank you." It was the last thing she spoke before she nodded and
turned to head out. Despite his good intentions, the healer had brought
up painful memories that she really hadn't been prepared to think about
right then and there.
