I'm Not Eating Weed

Writers: AL, Chelle
Date Posted: 25th May 2014

Characters: Relik, Aini
Description: The two of them argue over foodstuffs.
Location: Seacraft Hall
Date: month 7, day 4 of Turn 7

"Aini, why do I smell seaweed when I walk by the kitchens?" Relik found
himself bellowing to be heard over the din. The Hallmaster knew the stuff
was supposed to be healthy, but he would be shelled before he would eat it.

"Because it's a readily available and quickly renewable food resource
and it's good for you." Aini eyed the puffed up Master with hardly any
change in her expression. She would not be cowed, even if he was the
Master of the hall. "And I've asked them to prepare it using my recipe."

"Fish is readily available and it's good for me too. I am not eating seaweed
and neither are my men. That is worse than swill." He made a face as if
that was the end of that.

"You haven't even tried my recipe." A light flashed in Aini's dark
eyes, the only indication of her annoyance. "At least do me the
courtesy of that."

"Swill is swill no matter how it's doctored up. Seamen need good hearty
food in their bellies. We have to build strong men, not skinnies." He was
going to have to introduce her to one of the ship cooks.

The light flashed within that dark gaze once more and Aini turned to
face the Master. Rank or no rank, she knew what her duties were and she
would be flamed if she'd allow a man to compromise the health of her
charges. "Then you will let me do my job. We have to build strong men
which means making sure they are well fed with good, wholesome food.
You are a Master, surely you know what happens to men who don't consume
foodstuffs that give them the proper nutrition. I am well aware of what
our men need. You tend to your duties, Master, I will tend to mine.
The well being of every member of this Hall is of utmost importance. I
will not only make sure they are fed, but they are fed in such a manner
that it will help prevent scurvy and other illnesses. Please trust me
enough to do my duty."

"You do your duty and we'll eat our greens, but not seaweed. Not fish
food." Like it or not, this was his Hall and he would have ultimate
authority in it. Best for her to learn it now.

"Indeed. Now if you'll excuse me, I have my duties to attend to." His
attitude irritated her to no end. Well, Aini wasn't usually to force
something on someone, but if that was the way he was going to be, then
he needed to realize he shouldn't push her buttons, not in her territory.

He made a dismissive gesture and headed off to go see about something
over at the docks. He grabbed a meatroll for the trip on the way out.
