"Uegot! You're going to be late!" Nerylyn called as she stopped Lyngot
from dropping his spoon on the floor.

The children were enjoying a light snack in their rooms rather than
the dining hall.

"Gotner, go see what's keeping your father," she told the oldest who
quickly got up and headed towards the bedchambers.

"Father, mother wants to know what's keeping you?" the boy called as
he stepped into his parents' room.

"Ah, nothing, I'm coming," Uegot looked slightly quilty when he put
marker between the pages and put the book aside. Seeing as bookwormish
didn't fit his image. He was supposed to be the big brute.

Gotner headed back out to the table and informed his mother, "He's on
his way. What do we get to do today?" He looked eagerly to Nerylyn.

"Let's wait for father and see what his plans are for the day and then
we can decide. We could go for a swim perhaps, or go watch the work at
the Hall, or...what would you _like_ to do?" Nerylyn asked looking
around at the group of children.

"So, what have today? ," Uegot came in and tousled the youngest one's
hair while passing him to give Nerylyn a quick kiss.

"Well, I don't know, dear," Nerylyn replied. "Do you have any plans
for the day? If not, we could all do something fun together, but
what?" She looked to her husband and to the children, curious to see
what they would suggest.

"Kaphrad and I are going thru some apprentice materials later in the
afternoon, but other than that, no plans," Uegot replied.

"Alright then, we should have some fun family time then," Nerylyn
replied. "Children what do you think we should do?" She looked to them
for ideas.

"We could go sailing or swimming...or, we should ask Uetia to visit us
sometime. She could give us a ride on her dragon," Uegot suggested.

"All good ideas," Nerylyn replied, "though I doubt we could get Uetia
here today on such short notice, so how about sailing or swimming?"
She looked to the children.

"Could we go sailing with papa?" Gotner asked, "We get to swim _all_
the time, but we don't always get to go out on the sea with papa." He
looked with hopeful eyes to Uegot and then back to Nerylyn. Nerylyn,
in turn, looked to Uegot, allowing him to answer.

"Sure, why not. I just ask Korkary a permission to borrow a boat. We
can take picnic lunch with us," Uegot replied with a grin. Yes, taking
his family out to sea, what could be better way to spend birthday.

"Fantastic," Nerylyn replied, "I'll go gather some of the supplies
we'll need." She smiled at her husband, reached up on her tippy-toes
to plant a kiss on his cheek and then darted off to gather their
picnic supplies.

Considering the family brood wasn't small, it didn't take as long as
you might have expected to get them all ready. Nerylyn was used to
getting the children ready and moving with some speed. With basket
over her arm, the family walked down towards the dock, eager for their
special day at sea.

Uegot had gotten a boat for them. Large enoug to fit in everyone, yet
small enough he could sail it all by himself. The older children had
some experience with sailing and could help a little.
"There you are," he said when his family arrived.

"Perfect," Nerylyn replied with a smile as she watched the children
eagerly start to run towards the boat and climb on board. "This will
be a nice day for all of us." She smiled up at her husband.

"Yes," Uegot agreed and lifted the younger ones to the boat. "Stay
put, no running around in a boat," he admonished the children.

Nerylyn climbed on board, ready to help. She'd done this often enough
with Uegot in the past. "Lead the way, captain," she teased.

"Yes, ma'am," Uegot saluted and got the boat under way soon enough.
The children had sailed with him often so they knew how to behave. He
let the older ones take turns at the tiller, when the boat was on
straight course.

Nerlyn simply enjoyed the ride. Helping when needed, mostly she just
watched her husband and children manning the ship as though it was
second nature for them all. Once they got out far enough to let the
boat simply rest, she offered a suggestion, "Shall we enjoy the
special lunch I packed for us?"

"Fine by me," Uegot replied. "I worked up an apetite." Of course,
being large man, he needed plenty of food.

Nerylyn chuckled. "Come then. Let's eat." She started to unpack all
the treats and sweetmeats she'd garnered. Then she pulled out a set of
special pastries. "I even got some of the baker's best pastries. I
know how much you all love them and how quickly they disappear. I
thought we could celebrate father's birthday with a nice sweet
dessert." She grinned, "but first, eat your tubers and vegetables and
_then_ we can have some of the sweet pastries."

"Come on, cruel woman. Can't we have dessert first and then eat the
veggies?" Uegot asked, joking around with his family.

"Just because it's your birthingday doesn't mean you can skip right to
dessert!" She replied with a grin, then leaning over, she whispered in
his ear alone. "Besides your _real_ dessert is later after the
children are asleep!" Her grin and the fire in her eyes told exactly
what she was thinking as she coyly turned back to preparing the food
for the children.

"Mmmh, sounds good," Uegot said and pulled her into his lap so he
could properly kiss her.

She playfully tried to push him away with a laugh, even though she
eagerly succumbed to the kiss he gave her. Nerylyn adored her husband
and the time they spent together was precious to her.

"Ewww, can we _eat_ now instead of watching you two?" Gotner asked
already reaching for food to fill his plate and stuff into his mouth.

"Later, my love," Uegot murmured to her ear before letting her go.

She chuckled. "Later sounds like a plan." Then with a wink, she went
back to tending the children. Eager for their chance to be alone later
in the evening.
