"Reeves!" Eioval came swaggering into her living quarters with a delighted
smile on his face and a canvas under his arm. "You have got to see this.
Our boy is a genius I tell you, an absolute genius!"
Blearily, Reeva raised her head. She'd fallen asleep in a chair- again.
That *had* to stop.
In the face of the buoyant greeting, it took a few blinks and a quick
headshake to get her remotely onto the same plane. Even with them, it
didn't quite succeed, as all she could summon was a soft.
"Oh?"
Eioval paused in his excitement for a moment, long enough to give Reeva a
reprimanding shake of the head. "Chairs are not for sleeping, you know."
"But yes, our son is by far the most talented lad ever! Have a look at
this!"
He revealed the canvas to Reeva with a flourish, displaying the painting
with pride. It was indeed a wonderful piece, but not very different from
the last one he had done.
Another couple of blinks.
"Dragons. "
Blink.
"Again, I note. The pair of you have a problem in that area."
It was good for a lad of his age, she had to admit. With which Eioval
himself was gifted a slight thoughtful frown. So long as the burgeoning
talent remained the *only* thing he inherited from his father.
"I take it it's raining out, judging by the dripping? Or has one of
Solieira's girls splashed you?"
"We live in a Weyr, Reeves, how can we not?"
He looked down at his feet and the small pools that were gathering around
them. "Oh, yes, rain," he nodded. "But I wrapped the painting!"
That was it. She couldn't help the half laugh, half exasperated growl as
she rose.
"Here, you fool."
She tossed him over the old blanket she'd had on her knee.
"Blot what of that deluge isn't already pooling on my floor and come get
warm."
Her eyes twinkled to match her smile despite her exasperation.
Eioval caught the blanket and looked at it for a moment, then shrugged and
dried off the worst.
"You do look nice and warm," he then grinned as he approached like a
predator sneaking up on it's prey.
Reeva was a forthright woman. When he was within reach, she wrapped herself
to him.
"Do I, then?"
"Mmm.." Eioval breathed in her scent as he wrapped his arms around her
close. "So warm.. and soft, Milady."
She laughed softly, gently brushing errant hair back from one of his cheeks.
"Soft is the last word my staff would use, dear boy. People will think
you've lost your mind."
"Sometimes I think they already do," Eioval grinned wide. "So nothing's
lost."
Pushing her back down on the couch lightly, he then pulled her up in a
cuddle. "How was your day, lovely?"
With a soft sigh, she lay a head on the welcoming shoulder, snuggling a
little closer. Though the visit was unexpected, she was glad for it.
"Long. Very, very long."
There'd been a few of them recently- hence the chair napping.
"And filled with bodily fluids of the un-fun variety. I sincerely hope
yours was different."
Putting one arm around her, Eioval squeezed her gently. "My day was only
filled with fluids of the paint-y kind, I assure you," he smiled as he
kissed the top of her head. "Though part of me regrets that." A mischievous
twinkle appeared in his eyes. "Maybe you can help me?"
She didn't raise her head, so the deep-throated laugh was into his shoulder.
"You, sir, are incorrigible. Some of us are old and need our rest."
One hand drifted lightly across his chest in marked contrast to the words
and the twinge she always felt when she wandered too close to that thought.
"Do I take it that was *not* an invitation to put you to scrubbing out
bedpans?"
"Certainly not, I think I can be of much more use to you in other ways,"
Eioval grinned, nuzzling her neck.
She laughed again, hands still busy, as she slid to straddle his lap. Her
soft curls fell to frame them both as she lent in. Her eyes sparked with
mischief to match his own.
"So its mop and bucket duty, then?"
"Maybe when I'm done with you," Eioval snickered, enjoying the playful side
of Reeva that came out only too rarely.
"Such promises!"
"And I intend to keep them!" Eioval laughed as he scooped her up in his
arms to carry her to the bedchamber.
