Thirst Quenching

Writers: Eimi, Elaine
Date Posted: 30th January 2006

Characters: Karaleigh, M'kel
Description: Karaleigh and M'kel chat a bit while doing hide work
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 9, day 22 of Turn 3

M'kel was working on some hide work over dinner tonight. Even though he could have just brought food back to his office he wanted to get out for a bit. He spied someone a few tables over similiarly occupied. Not exactly his type, but she was easy on the eye.

"Hello," he said waving across the tables. "Would you mind some company?

"Well actually," Karaleigh said with a small smile, though inside she was groaning, "I was almost finished." So much for a nice leisurely dinner. That's what she gets for eating in the dining cavern and not in her own room.

"I've got a little more here too myself," he said getting up and bringing his work over to her seat. "But after I finish these notes, it'd be nice to not think _at_all_ about wingcharts." **Like your smile** he thought, able to get a better look at Karaleigh when he came closer. **Maybe I should have finished my work first, I'm likely to get distracted.**

"Oh, well, I wouldn't want to distract you from your work," she said with a polite smile.

"Thanks, but sitting with you, will stop others from trying to speak with me, catching me alone," he said, rationalizing as he bent quill back to the hides. "I can, speak a bit as I write, although if you cannot I will stop, so as not to disturb you?"

"If I cannot what? Speak while I write?"

"Yes, I can multitaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaask," he replied, but pasued over a compilcated thought, "to an extent."

"You are a rare male then, in my experience." Although she knew _she_
was one of the tasks that was also on the wingleader's mind. Would dragonriders ever learn that not every woman in the Weyr was there to serve their insatiable lust?

"I'm glad you think so," M'kel replied, flashing her a cocky smile.
"You're not so ordinary yourself."

"Well, that's a relief," she replied dryly, stopping the urge to roll her eyes by taking a drink.

M'kel completely paused his writing looking straight at Karaleigh.
"What is it like for the Hall to come to you?"

"Well, I've always wanted to go to the Hall. It has some of the finest minds on all Pern. It's... stimulating." Though Karaleigh wished she had more reason to actually interact with the members of the Hall. She wondered if that would changed after they had settled into their new home.

"Yes, Stimulating," he said, a smile pulling at his face. "definitely some of the more interesting years of my life, but don't tell Ragorath that," he said with a wink.

"You were Searched from the Hall, then?" she asked, slightly curious.

"Yes, shortly after I walked the tables," he answered.

"Huh," was the extent of her reply as she broke off a piece of roll and stuffed it in her mouth.

M'kel made a face, he wondered if the hall wasn't something she wanted to talk about. He made a few more notations on the hide. **Almost done** he thought, as he continued to be quiet for a few more minutes.

Karaleigh continued to chew her roll...

M'kel lifted his mug to sip, but nothing came out. He shook it. "do you need a refill? I'm going to go get some more of this fruit juice,"
he said pointing to the mug as he stood up.

She saw this as the perfect opportunity! "Ah, no, I'm almost finished here. In fact, perhaps I'd better get going. I have classes early in the morning and those children really wear me out."

**Why is she running away?** M'kel thought raising an eyebrow in confusion. "Alright. Have a good evening then Karaleigh." And with a shrug he trotted away, not a thought more wasted on her, looking for something to drink.
