Description: The Hallmaster and Headwoman discuss upcoming plans and events
Location: Dolphin Hall
Date: month 5, day 2 of Turn 7
Jylanya reported to the Hallmaster's office as was her habit each
week. She brought her clip board and reports for needed supplies.
"Sir," she knocked on his door frame. "Is now a good time?"
"Of course," Famell answered, looking up at recognizing his
Headwoman's voice. "Is it time for another of our meetings again?" He
asked, a slight hint of humor in his voice. Jylanya was nothing if not
punctual and predictable when it came to their meetings. For once,
though, he had much to share with her.
"Candlemarks burn when you're having fun," she grinned and walked in
to take a seat across from him. She pulled out a piece of paper and
slid it across the desk to him. "These are the supplies we'll need
from the Weyr next month."
He glanced at the list. Most of it was just as he would expect. "That
shouldn't be a problem. I will take this with me to the Weyr in the
next few days." He paused, then added, "We may have to consider adding
a few things to our list however."
"Oh?" She perked up with a puzzled smile. "What did I miss," she
asked. She could have sworn she'd gone through the list carefully.
He smiled at the chance to tease her a bit. He knew she always did her
job well, and it was fun to see the surprise on her face.
"Well," he began with a bit of a drawn out pause, "I think we'd best
get some party supplies prepared in the near future."
"Party supplies?" She narrowed her eyes knowing he was toying with
her. "Are you giving me time enough to plan for this party?"
He had to try hard not to laugh at her expression before he finally
replied. "Aye, I am. We have quite a few candidates for promotion
coming up. We will even have a few moving onto Mastery, as well as
some other promotions. I'm not certain of when we will have everyone
ready to walk the tables, but I wanted you to start preparing."
She looked askance at him for a moment with a small smile. Perhaps
Naton was finally going to get the promotion he so richly deserved.
Hadn't his invention proved invaluable during the last few months?
"So, how many are you planning to promote?" She poised ready to take notes.
"Well, I believe we have two, for sure, who are nearly ready for
mastery, so they will be the ones we wish to focus on the most. Then
there will be," he counted, "about 5 or 6 others who will be moving up
in rank. Of course, the whole Hall will be invited as well as many of
the other leaders from the Weyr and surrounding areas since we are
promoting masters. The families of those involved, so we should plan
on a slightly larger than normal crowd."
"Ahh, well then," she tapped a finger against her lips as several
possibilities flashed through her mind. "If we're having that many
visitors I'll have to revise my counts on the food supplies at the
very least. But also, I'd like to start cleaning in the third level.
There are some very nice rooms up there and perhaps the new Master's
may wish their own quality quarters. That _would_ free up some guest
space. Not the whole thing mind, just the bit at the top of the main
staircase. You know, where we've been stashing the cargo salvage."
Famell thought that suggestion over. It wasn't a bad idea. They had
even talked in the past about the possibility that they might need the
third level sometime soon.
"Let's give it a try and see how it goes. There are definitely some
nice quality spaces up there that will have quite a few of our
dolphineers clamoring for first pick if we get them all tidied and
ready. I can have as many of the staff and apprentices help when they
are not doing their other duties as well." It would be good to make
more use of the third level. It was rather spacious and would
definitely make the Hall seem even more alive than it already was.
"Alright," she smiled. "Would you mind if I were to draw up a
tentative schedule?"
"No at all. In fact that would be very helpful. I'm already planning
the masters conclave for our two potential masters, but we have a few
others moving up in rank too." Famell slid her a list that contained
the names for those who were being promoted. "Most of the journeyman
and apprentices on the list should receive their promotions without
problem, but I still need to meet with a few. We'll also need to make
sure we invite their families to join us. Perhaps you can handle that
for me?"
"Of course," she said pulling the list toward her and glancing up to
smile when she saw the first name on the list. "I promise not to say
anything about... these names."
Famell grinned. He knew of her closeness with Naton, and caught the
look in her eye.
"Good, good, we can't have anyone giving away our secrets too soon,
now, can we?" He remarked.
"That's the main thing I needed to discuss with you. Was there
anything you needed to discuss with me?" He asked her.
"Actually there is," her eyes sparkle. "Your birthingday. You know we
have to have a party for that as well don't you?"
"Ah," he waved a hand at her, "we don't _have_ to have a party," Yet
he smiled brightly at the idea, and added, "but I'm sure the Hall
would enjoy a party."
It was her turn to chuckle at his discomfort. "You can't get out of it
you know," she smiled and nodded.
"Alright," she clapped her hands together. "I have lots to do and I'm
sure you do too. I'll have that schedule on your desk by tomorrow."
