Characters: Eioval, Riveenata
Description: Eioval comes across a saddened Riveenata and tries to cheer her up with an offer.
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 5, day 24 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Reeva

Eioval sauntered into the Infirmary with his usual ease, having a quick
chat with a passing patient before he hopped on the desk of the
journeywoman in charge. "Hey there Riven," he smiled at her disarmingly.
"Have you seen the ever beautiful Reeva around?"

Riven laughed. "I think she's in her office. I haven't seen her with a
patient."

"Awesome," Eioval was about to set off again but something made him stop
and lean back against the desk. "Everything alright with you?" he asked,
cocking his head with a rare serious expression on his face.

She looked down. "Did you know S'vai?" she asked, referring to the
brownrider who'd died in the last Fall. "We were friends for Turns and
Turns."

"Only in passing," Eioval admitted as he reached out and put a hand on
Riveenata's shoulder, squeezing it gently. "But I head he was a great man."
Glancing around, he saw a chair and pulled it up. "Are you coping?"

"As well as can be, I suppose. I've had patients die before, but not ones
who are also close friends."

"I guess you can count yourself lucky on that account, at least," Eioval
said, his blue eyes staring in to hers, searching for a hint of further
upset. "That S'vai was the first, I mean. I remember the first days of
Threadfall..." The Harper shuddered. Growing up in the Weyr he'd had many
rider friends and had seen way too many die by Thread.

She nodded in understanding. "I was just a weyrbrat when Thread started
back up. But the group of brats I grew up with, some of them are riders
now, and I get scared every Fall I'm going to hear someone I care about is
gone. And S'vai just wasn't the one I expected it to happen to." She
shivered a little.

"I understand," Eioval nodded, giving her shoulder another squeeze. "You
know, I think I might have some sketches of S'vai and his brown, from one
of my lakeside excursions. You are welcome to come and see if there's one
to your liking and keep it."

Her eyes widened at the generous offer. She had to clear her throat before
she was able to speak. "That's a generous offer," she managed. "I think I'd
like that."

"Mind you, they're just practise sketches, so not actually works of art or
anything, but it might be a nice remembrance. Just swing by my quarters
sometime and I'll show you."

She nodded. "I bet when you sketch, you capture people unguarded and
probably see a totally different side of them."

Eioval smiled at the insightful compliment. "People do say that when they
see my sketches," he nodded. "Well, I'll leave you to your business, but
please do drop by when you have the chance. I really want you to have that
sketch."

"I will. Thanks a lot for chatting with me," she said.

"My pleasure," Eioval replied, giving her shoulder a last squeeze before
continuing his search for Reeva.
