Description: Coran goes to Emerald Falls for some missing supplies
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 5, day 9 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Reven, Relea
Coran wasn't much of a traveler. Unlike his brother, Reven, he enjoyed
staying home at Green Valley whenever possible. However the infirmary
was running short on a few supplies. For whatever reason they had been
missing from the incoming supply train that usually brought what they
needed. It was a few essential herbs and ingredients that Coran used
commonly, as well as a crate of fellis.
Having saddled his runner, Coran took along another to carry the
supplies. When he arrived at Emerald Falls his first destination was
the Harper Hall. The infirmary at Green Valley was in need of paper.
It was essential to their patient records, and for the work that the
apprentices did.
Leaving his runners with one of the stablehands, Coran made straight
for the Harper Hall. He wanted this trip to be quick so he could get
back home. He never liked being far from Relea since their betrothal.
As usual, Asley was hard at work. The senior apprentice, dead set on
her knots, didn't go outside the Hall much. The Hold was a scary place
for many reasons. Hearing a noise, she turned around. It was hard to know
who it might be. The printer was also hard to identify. Clad in her usual
uniform of smock, ink, and apron, much of her face was black and red.
Her hair was pinned severely back. Her eyes were saved by goggles.
"Hello there?"
"Hi." Coran answered back, although he had to stifle the sudden urge
to laugh that came over him when he saw the young woman with her
goggles on. "I am just here for some paper." He said by way of
explanation of his presence.
She pulled them up, revealing clear eyes that weren't sullied. "Thick, thin..."
The paper came from the woodsmiths, but Asley did have some on hand.
"Who are you?"
With the goggles now out of the way, Asley's eyes seemed that much
clearer and prominent on her face, "Thick, please. I'm Journeyman
Coran, the senior healer down at Green Valley."
"Hmmm a healer..." Of course there were healers at the Hold and at the
Hall. This one was from a minor hold though. **Senior healer...he's proud
of his title.** "How much?" She only had so much. The thicker paper was
better for printing things that would be well-used. They'd have to take a trip
to the woodsmith for more.
"Twenty sheets? We cut them in half to make them last longer." Coran
explained, mentally ticking this off of his list of items to get. He
needed to go back to the healers' quarters here at Emerald Falls to see
what items they had to spare.
He outranked her so she didn't ask him if he had submitted a supplies
requisition. As it was Asley went over to the pile to count quickly. With
her line of work, that didn't take long. Removing her gloves to reveal
clean hands, she counted out the sheets and tied them together with some
twine. "Do you have a parcel or something to put it in?"
Fortunately the supplies had been paid for with the others that had arrived
on the supply train. They just _hadn't_ been on the wagon. Coran swung the
satchel off of his shoulder, "Thank you very much for your help." And then he
looked up as realization struck, "I don't believe I caught your name..."
She was so used to no one ever asking that she'd forgotten introduce herself.
"Senior apprentice printer Asley." There was a proud note in her voice, but it
was overshadowed by the grime on her face. She handed him the paper carefully.
"It was a pleasure meeting you miss Asley," Coran said as he gingerly tucked
the paper down into the satchel so it wouldn't get rumpled along the way. "I
will let you get back to your work now. Thanks again."
"Well met indeed. Good day healer." She pulled her goggles back down again
and then worked to get her heavy gloves on. She certainly looked a sight but it
didn't matter to her.
Coran turned and left, his mind already on his next list of things to
collect. The fellis was going to be the shardin' hardest thing to
acquire. He still couldn't believe that an _entire crate_ of it had
simply been "left off" of the wagon. He knew that the wagons were
checked and doubled checked before being sent out with supplies.
Still, what proof did he have that someone had filched the crate of
fellis? If it was only a one time occurrence then Coran supposed he
should count himself fortunate. He hadn't reported it to Reven this
time, his brother had other things to worry about anyway, but he would
be keeping an eye on their supply trains in the future. Green Valley
couldn't afford to be buying supplies and then having most of them
missing when the wagon showed up.
The healer sighed as he turned the corner. **Just focus on your job,
Coran, you are just a healer.** He told himself as he walked into the
Emerald Falls infirmary. Just a healer.
