Tavia

Tavia

She could hear the sound of a crying child and hurried out toward the
front of the infirmary to see what was happening. "Hello there," she
said before she made it through the curtain. "What seems to be..."

She stopped for a second and her brows drew together. "Aileyan? What's
wrong?" She walked around the counter and peered at Ravyan.

"Hi Tavia, I think Ravyan might have ear infection," Aileyan said. She
tensed a bit, still slightly uncomfortable around Tavia. But she was
healer and her concern over her son over rode everything else.

"Oh my," she said with concern. "Why don't you bring him back and
we'll see what we can do for him?" She turned and pulled back a
curtain for the other greenrider to go through.

"He had a cold, he was already getting better and now I think he has
fever again," Aileyan explained when she followed Tavia to the exam
bed.

"Does he complain or rub his ears," she asked as she got some
instruments ready for checking various things.

"Yes, and he doesn't want to lay down," Aileyan put Ravyan to sit on
the bed and gave him his stuffed toy dragon. The boy started to suck
the dragon's tail. "Ravyan," Aileyan sighed and pulled the tail out
his mouth. She was trying to wean him out of the habit.

"Hmm," she said and crouched down to Ravyan's level. "Where does it
hurt little man," she asked.

"Here," Ravyan said and put his free hand on his ear.

'Okay," she said with a smile. "Can I look? I'll just need a quick peek."

The boy nodded little nervously. "Does it hurt?"

"No, she's a healer, she can make it better," Aileyan reassured him
and stroked his hair.

Tavia smiled again and then leaned in to look into the ear canal with
a glow held close to give better light. "Aye," she said to his mother.
"It looks like he's got a bit of an infection though it's not too
bad."

"We can fix you up," she patted Ravyan's knee and then turned to the cupboard.

"See, Ravyan, I told you so," Aileyan smiled at her son and ruffled
his hair. Tavia's professional manner had made her relax.

Tavia turned back around with some swabs along with some redwort and
fruit flavored syrup she had laced with Red willow salic and a pinch
of spearleek for the fever. The analgesic properties of the salic
would help with the longer term discomfort.

"Let's clean it out and then make it feel better so you can sleep,"
she smiled. "Can you lay your head on mama's lap so I can help your
ear?"

"All right," Aileyan answered for him and after a little shuffling
around, she and Ravyan were in position.

Tavia smoothed some hair from the little guy's face and then swabbed
out the ear gently. Once she was certain she'd gotten the area cleaned
she applied a little numbweed and a light oil to help the area heal
and remain pain free.

"Feel better," she asked softly when she was done.

"Yeah," Ravyan replied and smiled bravely.

"You're so brave," she smiled back the winked at Aileyan. "Do you
think you could do that? I can give you some of the oil and swabs.
He'll probably need another treatment in a few hours."

"Yes, and her fostermother can do it too," Aileyan nodded. After all,
the fostermother would be taking care of Ravyan rest of the treatment.

"Of course," Tavia smiled. "Luckily you caught it early so I'd imagine
he'll be feeling more normal by morning. If you need anything during
the night just have Kjarliheth tell Sawauth.

"All right, thank you, Tavia," Aileyan replied with small grateful
smile. Deep down she was feeling envy again..Tavia was also a skilled
healer...and what was she? Nothing.
