It had been a while since Aileyan and Demalia had been able to spend time
just two of them. All that was going on Aileyan's life had made her neglect
her friends. Determined to correct that, Aileyan had arranged girl's evening
to them.

Ravyan was with his fostermother, U'kaiah with Tavia, probably.

Aileyan had propped up her feet to the table, leaning backwards with a glass
on her hand. Demalia had brought cookies.

"Shards, it's been too long since we did this last time," she reached out
for a cookie.

"Way too long," agreed Demalia as she poured herself a drink. "Either you've
had company, or I have."

"Yes, busy, busy, busy. My life is so complicated these days," Aileyan said
with a sigh.

"But you enjoy some of those 'complications', right?" asked Demalia, a note
of concern over the sigh.

"Yes," Aileyan replied with a small grin. "But I envy Tavia, she seems to
be so much better adapted to the situation than me. she doesn't seem to have
any problems a sharing a man."

"Have you talked to U'kaiah about it? About how you feel?"

Ailayan nodded an affirmative, remembering her nightly break down. "I don't
think he completely understands it. He was a happy weyrbrat, he didn't grow
up as unwated bastard in a hold."

"What about Tavia, if you talk to her maybe she could help him understand?"
suggested Demalia gently after a moment or two.

Aileyan just replied with a long look at Demalia. She, talking to a person
who was basically a rival? She was just too shy for such.

"You can't just ignore her," Demalia said. "She's here now."

"I know. I keep comparing myself to her and she has such a cute baby..."
Aileyan sighed wistfully.

"You aren't thinking," Demalia stared at her friend, knowing what bearing
Ravyan had done to her. "It has crossed your mind hasn't it, another baby I
mean."

"Yes," Aileyan admitted after a deep sip from her glass. The healers had
forbade her more children, her pelvis was just too narrow.

"That's so dangerous for you," Demalia couldn't say much more. She'd seen
how worried the healers had been last time, and having to watch them perform
a surgical delivery... "You'd have to have another surgical delivery."

"I know," Aileyan said. The healers had said something about scar tissue
causing trouble, but frankly she had not listened them much back them. She
had been too occupied with the new born Ravyan.

"What does U'kaiah think?"

"I don't know," Aileyan shrugged.

"Promise me you'll talk to him before you stop taking the tea, right?"
Demalia asked. It worried her that Aileyan would be impulsive enough to just
try to concieve no matter what.

"Umh," Aileyan said uneasily. She had actually already stopped drinking the
preventive tea.

"You've already stopped!" The look on Demalia's face said it all, she was so
worried for her friend, worried about what would happen if she did manage to
carry a child to term.

"Yes," Aileyan said and sort of hid behind her drink. Part of her knew it
was stupid, dangerous thing to do.

"And you aren't pregnant already are you?"

"No, not yet. I wouldn't be drinking this wine if I were," Aileyan replied.

"Did you try and at least talk to the healers about this?" Maybe the cold
hard facts could do something, persuade her friend away from this dangerous
course.

"I already have a one child, I can't see why I couldn't have a second one,"
Aileyan sounded petulant...and stubborn.

"Ravyan's a precious gift, and I can see why you want him to have a brother
or sister, but promise me, if you're going to do this that you'll be careful."

"I'm always careful," Aileyan promised.

"Good."
