Sitting there in the man's office, Qorri waited on him after putting Jenackt in his
cot. She needed to share her concerns and let them know what was going on.
The Weyrlingmaster wasn't on duty and she knew D'naz was here somewhere.

Classes had been going well with the weyrlings. Having just done some
final meetings for the day, D'naz made his way back to his office. He
stopped in the doorway and a smile formed on his face.

"Ah, Qorri, to what do I owe this pleasure?" he asked as he moved into
the room.

"There's a new candidate." She waited until he had come inside and shut the door.
"Apparently he was Searched and N'vanik wants him to Stand. The boy
still needs to meet Cyradis but..." She scratched her head. "D'naz, he came in with a
rider-injured. He's healed and been working under me but..something doesn't sit
right. And he can't read or write so I'm going to have to get a harper to help him."

D'naz listened and frowned. Qorri had a knack for knowing the truth
about people. If she wasn't feeling things were right, D'naz knew
something must be amiss.

"Tell me a little more about this boy. What's his name? You said he
came injured...has he healed? I can speak with N'vanik and see what
his reasons are, but I'd like to hear your impression of him first."

"He's going by Amitko. The healers cleared him to work after some days.
He was working in my kitchens butchering meat which was fine. He kept to
himself and didn't bother with anyone. Now, though, he's in the barracks and
will be around others. I think N'vanik sees a bit of himself in the boy
but...I think it's different." She put her hands across her chest, thinking about
it.

"Going by Amitko?" D'naz asked, "Have you expressed this to N'vanik
or Cyradis yet? Your suspicions, I mean." D'naz frowned. From what Qorri
had said he couldn't quite see yet what was causing her to think the boy was
less than truthful. He needed more information before he proceeded with
any investigations of his own.

"N'vanik and I talked it over a bit but at that time I hadn't been around
the boy very much so we agreed to wait and see. It seemed not to
bother him so much." She shrugged. The boy might also just not be listening.

"I just wanted you to know he's going to need a lot of help. And I might watch him
around the others. He doesn't seem to have much experience around people." That
was quite true. The girls in the Caverns had often spoke about the
weird looks he gave them when they tried to talk to him.

"Alright," D'naz replied, finding himself more curious than anything
to meet this particular boy. "I do appreciate the heads up. I'll keep
a close eye on him and see how things go."

"Otherwise the other ones are doing well and no complaints. They get
their chores done." Qorri also knew they didn't complain much. She discouraged
whining. "Here's some hidework I promised to drop by. Don't think there
was anything else..."

"Alright then," D'naz replied. "I'll keep an eye on things as I
usually would. Stop by anytime Qorri." He took the hides and starting
sifting through them.
