K'deren

K'deren

"The drill went well, don't you think?" said K'deren as the riders began to drift off. Some would be going to bathe their dragons, others to duties in and around the weyr. Elecka he knew had a shift with the dragonhealers.

"Yes, very well, I agree," M'kel responded quite proudly. He believed he was working with an excellent group of riders, and hoped he would server them well. "do you have a moment to chat K'deren?"

"Of course sir," replied K'deren.

"Lets head over to my office," M'kel said with a motioning of his arm.

The office that had temporarily been his, thought K'deren as he walked with M'kel. However the brownrider was far happier as wingsecond. Unlike his younger brother at River Bluff, he wasn't the ambitious type.

When they arrived at his office M'kel threw down his gloves on the desk as he took a seat. M'kel waited for K'deren to also settle, eyeing his Wingsecond. "What have your impressions been of the wing of late K'deren," M'kel said, slowly leading up to the questions he really wanted to ask.

"Things have settled down a lot," he replied after a moment or two. There had been a lot of disruption here, many of this wing had been in the accident, or lost friends, family members, lovers in the tragedy. Then with the sudden transfer of the former Weyrleader. "Their spirit is starting to return, which is the main thing, and confidence is getting better. Both in themselves, and as a team."

"My thanks K'deren. I think you may be a lot of the reason the wing is not as bad off as it could be. You stepped forward in the time of the weyrs need, above and beyond the call of duty." M'kel said, his hand steepled in thought as he continued to look at K'deren. "I want you to know, I feel that I'm a very lucky Wingleader to have a man of your capabilities and dedication as my Wingsecond."

"Thank you sir," said K'deren. The response was a little automatic, drilled into him by habit. However the compliment was more than welcome. "You can rely on me to help where I can."

"I certainly do intend to K'deren. I am just a bit concerned. That you, as a man of such dedication may be worn too thin. I can tell you feel your responsibility, but I want to make sure you're not weighted down with too much. I need you to be honest with _me_. If you feel I should be doing _more_ tell me." He paused and smiled. "I'm sorry, I'm rambling on a bit, aren't I? You're a good man K'deren and I want to make sure I'm not leaning on you too much."

"Hopefully we can work things out between us. Leading is about more than just rank, it's about having the trust and confidence of the riders. We need to be honest with each other, if they can see us working together, that will help a lot."

"Yes, you're right K'deren. I have complete confidence and trust in, most our riders," M'kel did stop short, because there were one or two cases or riders he was concerned about. "I just hope I can gain their confidence and trust in return."

"I'm sure you will." K'deren managed a grin. "And the others, we can work with."

"And that we will," M'kel said, rising. "But we can work on that more tommorow. I won't keep you any longer K'deren from your own time.

"My children will be waiting for me."

"Go to them," M'kel said with a smile. He found it refreshing that a rider took such interesting in his children. Especially since M'kel himself had no idea if he sired any children running at all.
