What Are Your Intentions?

Characters: Aileyan, Harki
Description: Harki decides to introduce herself to Aileyan
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 3 of Turn 7

A little asking around revealed that Aileyan flew in Sienna Wing.
Harki had one of her wingmates point the greenrider out as she entered
the dining cavern, and found herself approving of U'kaiah's choice
based on looks alone. The greenrider was a pretty little thing with a
mane of curling dark hair and big, soft eyes like a herdbeast. U'kaiah
had always had a thing for tiny women. Harki waited until Aileyan had
selected her lunch before elbowing across the dining hall and claiming
a spot across from her at a table. She grinned at the surprise on
Aileyan's face as she sat. "I'm Harki. You must have heard _so_ much
about me."

"What?" Aileyan looked the older greenrider with confused expression.
The name was vaguely familiar, but she had to admit never meeting her
before.

"So he didn't mention me at all." Harki rolled her eyes. "Typical. I'm
a friend of U'kaiah's from way back."

"I see," Aileyan said with emotionless voice. She still didn't
understand why some U'kaiah's old fling would like to talk to her.
Unless they were here to twist the knife. Hasn't she got enough in her
hands with Tavia's situation.

"He says you're family, so I thought I'd introduce myself since he's
been putting it off. I've been waiting _days_ to meet you." Harki put
her elbows on the table to rest her chin on her fists. "So. Tell me
about yourself!"

"What's there to tell...I'm greenrider, twenty Turns old, hold bred
and I have four turns old son," Aileyan replied. "And no, U'kaiah
isn't his father."

Harki snorted. "I'd be _very_ surprised if he was."

Despite everything, Aileyan let out an amused, short laugh.

"Exactly. So why'd you attach yourself to him, anyway?"

"Because I love him," Aileyan gave her an arched eyebrow.

"Right." Harki leaned back in her chair and did her best to not roll
her eyes. Love didn't mean much in the end if there wasn't anything
else to base a relationship on, as she'd so recently learned at Rising
Moons Weyr. "U'kaiah is rather loveable, isn't he. Most of the women
in the Weyr have thought they were in love with him at one point or
another. I hope there's more to it than that, for both your sakes."

"So do I," Aileyan muttered. She had her own doubts. And then there
was Tavia. Was it surprise she feeling insecure?

"How'd you two meet, anyway?" Harki asked. With the way Aileyan
looked, she had a pretty good idea already, but it would be
interesting to hear it from the woman herself.

"He was my Wingleader for many Turns," Aileyan replied. "There was
nothing between us until I was recovering from a soured relationship
with a crafter and he was there to ease the pain. One thing led to the
another..." she told the other greenrider.

"Typical. U'kaiah is such a sucker for a woman in distress." Harki
smirked a little. As much as he professed to like his women with
backbone, U'kaiah just couldn't keep it platonic if there were tears
involved. The poor bronzerider hadn't stood a chance. "Good choice of
method to wrap him around your pinky."

Aileyan cocked an eyebrow at her. She had to admit Harki had a point.
Whenever she was in trouble or upset, U'kaiah was always there.

The silence stretched. Harki felt herself grow a little uncomfortable;
she was unused to weyrfolk who didn't want to talk. "So are you going
to stay with him, or are you going to break his heart?" she finally
asked. Aileyan obviously didn't like her much so it wouldn't hurt to
ask what her intentions were. U'kaiah liked to be the hero but
sometimes someone had to protect him.

"I have no intentions to breaking his heart," Aileyan replied,
slightly indignantly. Actually, she worried it was her heart who was
going to be broken. Harki, she thought, was being nosy and far too
curious to make Aileyan feel comfortable around her. She tended to be
very private, reserved person.

"Good! Then we can get along," Harki said brightly. It would remain to
be seen what shape U'kaiah was in after a Turn. Everyone always said
their intentions were good.

"Sure we can," Aileyan replied, more out of politeness than any real
interest to befriend the older greenrider.

"Well." Harki waited another heartbeat, then gave up. Aileyan was one
of the least friendly dragonriders she'd ever met, and she hoped for
U'kaiah's sake that she was good between the furs because he obviously
wasn't interested in her for her conversational skills. "This has been
fun. I'm sure I'll see you around. Enjoy your lunch!" With a cheery
wave, she stood and left Aileyan alone again.

"Thank you, see you around," Aileyan replied. When the older
greenrider was well out of ear shot, she let out a deep sigh of
relief. Now, what caused that third degree interrogation?
