Description: Cyradis and Hygalia share a bit of beer and gossip... er...
business...
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 15 of Turn 7
Notes: Mentioned: Qorri, Tavia, K'deren, Aileyan, U'kaiah
The morning had been clear and perfect and the afternoon beautiful.
Cyradis had planned for today to relax and just forget all the stress
of the recent days.
}:Genith and hers are on their way,:{ said Panitath from where she lay
submerged up to her whirling eyes in the cove's calm azure water.
"Oh good," murmured Cyradis from where she sat on a folding chair in
the shade of a tall tree that curved gracefully toward the bay. She
had everything she could possible want in a basket at her side
including a well insulated chest packed with ice and bottles of both
wine and water along with a food provided by Qorri.
The light wrap she wore provided a bit of protection from the strong
sun but she knew she'd be gaining a light dusting of freckles today.
The only thing that took Hygalia's breath away faster than the biting
cold of /between/ was the view that greeted her when she popped in over
the beach. **She sure knows how to pick her spots!** the goldrider
thought as Genith gracefully spiraled down towards the warm sand.
}:I will sun well today,:{ the gold all but purred.
**As will I,** her lifemate reassured her. Hygalia waved to her fellow
Weyrwoman before throwing a leg over the massive neck and sliding down
to the ground.
Cyradis stood and shaded her eyes under the wide brimmed woven hat she
wore. "Good to see you Hygalia," she said. "Didn't I promise you a
lovely day?"
"What power you wield," Hygalia laughed walking towards the goldrider
and giving her hand a friendly squeeze. "Thank you for arranging it for
me. What a lovely spot." She turned around, squinting back at the cove
she had admired from the air.
"Can't go wrong this time of year, or so they tell me," she smiled.
"Want something cold to drink?"
"Of course. And do I get one of your fancy chairs, too?" she asked,
pointing at the rather comfortable looking seat the Dolphin Cove
Weyrwoman had recently occupied.
"You _do_," she said with a grin. "And one of these lovely shade
hats." Cyradis turned and picked up another of the chairs from the
ground on the other side of her. "Our wood smith is a wonder," she
said as she unfolded the wooden frame and cloth settled into place.
"Here," she added as she handed Hygalia a hat like hers. "You're going
to need this too."
"Well now, let it never be said that Cyradis of Dolphin Cove doesn't
know how to treat a guest," Hyaglia smiled, setting the hat on her head.
She felt just a little ridiculous, but who would see but the two of
them? "Did you also arrange for dolphins to be jumping in the cove
today?"
Cyradis chuckled. "I imagine I could wave a hand but I doubt any
dolphins would appear. They might if our lifemates played in the water
a bit. They do love to play with dragons." She reached into the
container beside her and pulled out a cold bottle
She looked out at the gentle waves lapping around Panitath. "You know
we do have a rather large share of dolphineers floating by our beaches
on a restday. I imagine that probably might have something to do with
greenriders on the beach," she grinned at Hygalia and handed her the
beer. "How long can you stay?"
**Thank the Egg!** Hygalia though as she took the beer in hand. Being
raised as a proper young lady, she had been taught that beer and ale
were not appropriate, which is probably why she liked them so much!
While
she enjoyed a nice chilled wine or fruity drink now and then, on a hot
and sunny day like today, _this_ was what would hit the spot! "All day.
Well, the rest of this day here at least. It's early morning in
Dragonsfall now."
Cyradis chuckled and sipped her own drink as she soaked in the peace
and beauty of this place. "So perhaps we should get done with business
so we can enjoy the rest of your day."
"Ah, yes, business," Hygalia sighed, though honestly, she had been
looking forward to this little chat with Cyradis. The truth was, she
was fond of juicy gossip and savory details, though she would never
admit it, or pass it what she gleaned along wantonly. "Tell me about
your greenrider,
Tavia, Suwauth's rider."
"Tavia," she mused. "She's a solid rider. Has been in the Queen's wing
since before I came here. She's also a healer." She shifted her eyes
sideways with a smirk. "But I don't imagine that's exactly what you
wanted me to talk about, eh?"
She took another sip of her drink. "This child she's had with your
bronze rider is her only issue and I'm not all that happy to see them
go."
Hygalia chuckled softly. Who would want to lose such a rider? "To tell
you the truth, I'm not sure I'm all that happy to see her come, though
I'm more than willing to approve a transfer that would benefit my Wing."
And the Weyr could always use more healers. "But U'kaiah's young
lover, Aileyan, is also in my Wing. I've grown rather fond of her, and
I know this move would be a difficult one for her to accept."
The easiest thing, of course, would be to transfer one of them to a
fighting Wing, though Hygalia was loath to do that. "Do you think Tavia
is the jealous type?"
That was a good question and she thought a moment before she answered.
"I've never seen or heard anything like that about her, but I haven't
been here all that long. She is weyrborn and raised so I rather doubt
it." She looked at Hygalia, "Do you think the other young woman is the
Jealous type?"
She thought a moment about the serious little greenrider. A sad smile
crossed her lips. "I think she's the easily hurt type. She's not
Weyrbred, and she's struggling to understand." Hygalia was in no doubt
that U'kaiah cared deeply for her. But she really didn't know much
about his relationship with Tavia. "Do you think U'kaiah is in love
with your greenrider?"
Cyradis shook her head, "I'm sure I don't know," she said with half a
smile. "He does visit her rather frequently, though and he doesn't
seem to spend much time with any others here. So, I hope for her sake
he is." She was certain they both had had bad experiences with bronze
riders but imagined it was far worse for greenriders. "What do you
think? You know him better than I do."
"I don't know either," Hygalia confessed. "I know he loves Aileyan.
You can see it in his face when he looks at her. But I've never seen
him with Tavia. He always comes here to Dolphin Cove to be with Tavia.
But he certainly does spend a
_lot_ of time here. It can't be easy for a Wingleader to balance duties
and two women, let alone factor in the time difference. And yet he does
make that effort." Which was rather surprising considering his
free-spirited past. "I just would hate for her to come to Dragonsfall
and things not work out."
Cyradis gave a big sigh and leaned her head back. "I know. I thought
about that and it has to have been terribly hard on both of them. He
must care for her a great deal at the very least." She turned her head
slightly to look at the other woman. "Would you like to meet with her
before you approve it?"
"I would like that. Perhaps if you can release her for an afternoon she
can come to Dragonsfall." And maybe Hygalia could see her with U'kaiah.
That would answer a lot of questions in her mind. "It will certainly be
a very unusual arrangement. Do you think it could work?"
Cyradis accepted the fact of flights and the morals of the Weyr that
surrounded that. Her own personal preference was something different
and she wouldn't have thought of sharing K'deren with another woman on
a part time basis. "I don't really know," she smiled. "But we might
just find out."
