Lady Yanley

Yanley

Yanley entered the infirmary. She take a look around, greeting familiar
co-workers. Her pregnancy had now reached the state, where she had been
forced to let out seams of her dress. What really amazed her, how more
people didn't notice anything. She had obviously gained pounds, her breasts
were larger and heavier. He skin and eyes glowed and her mood swing from
bubbly happiness to a nervous frightened-about-future. Even her hair seemed
the thicker.

Ah but someone had been noticing. And Tourniquet's nearness to her wasn't
unplanned. The firelizard had been watching and so had someone else. Pretty
sure about his suppositions and knowing what a calamity it was going to
mean-for Yanley, the Lord Holder, and himself-Chupsin waited until he was
sure. Sitting in his office, he told an apprentice to fetch the Lady for him.

After getting the summon from the apprentice, Yanley didn't waste any time.
Ignoring Bram who was chittering at Tourniquet, she was soon knocking
Chupsin's office door. "You wanted to see me, Chupsin?"

"Aye. Please sit." He gestured towards the open chair once she had entered.
This wasn't going to be easy and he wondered just how she was going to
react.

Yanley nodded and took the seat. She sent her flits away since they seemed
to be agitated about something and their flying around her was distracting.

"Lady Yanley, it has taken me some time to come to grips with your symptoms
of late. I rolled it around in my mind-you see. Here you were having that
sickness. We treated it. Then I noticed you had gained a bit of weight.
She's eating healthier these days, I thought. Well now with certain other
characteristics I'm finding it easier to put together. So how many months
has it been since you had your menses?" The last sentence was released
without any emotion, in a clinical observational manner but the meaning was
clear. He wasn't a fool and he knew and it would be stupid to think she
didn't. Her reasons for hiding it were clear, but Chupsin was not one to lie
to.

"At the end of month ten," Yanley replied the question, keeping her tone as
clinical as his. Since he had figured it out, she saw no reason to pretend
otherwise.

So she did know and she was hiding it, he surmised from her lack of a
reaction. "Well mlady, you know I have to ask since you are
currently unmarried and happen to be Blooded-does the Lord Holder know?"
While Chupsin had healer autonomy, he was also obliged to the Lord Holder
when it came to certain issues. And if Yanley would tell Benani or Zathris
herself, meaning he wouldn't be forced to, he would be happier to stay out
of family business. "I'll also ask whether or not you've had an exam to make
sure everything is progressing normally."

"I have been examined once, at the beginning at the pregnancy. By master
Telemon. I'm sure you trust his judgment?" Yanley replied to the later
question.

"So it's been some time then. I suggest you schedule another appointment."
He noticed how she ignored his earlier question. "Mlady-does Lord Zathris
know?"

"Benani knows and I'm if Zathris don't know it just yet, he will shortly,"
Yanley replied to the last question. She just nodded affirmative for the
suggestion for appointment.

"Very well. Let me know when you plan on coming in and we'll make sure
everything is taken care of. If you have need of any ointments or something
to help with the indigestion, all you have to do is ask." The rest of it was
now, thankfully, none of his business.

"Thankfully, everything has progressed normally so far," Yanley said, her
hands covering her belly protectively. She was all too aware of the risks
involved. She was over forty Turns old and this was her first one.

"Indeed. And I will do what I can to ensure the rest does." And he hoped it
was clear that he expected to serve as her healer. If she went to someone
else again at another Hold, he was going to be quite furious. Passed over
again by a Blood relative just because he wasn't a Master yet... No that was
unacceptable.

"Thank you, Chupsin. I know I can trust your skills and to be discreet," she
said. The months of working under him had given her a respect for Chupsin's
professional skills.

"Not a problem. Well that was all I wanted to speak with you about. You're
free to return to your duties, but let me know if anything changes and I'll
see when we should consider a follow-up." He needed to make notes into her
Record and set up the appointment.

Yanley nodded.
