Heading about the barracks, a smile on his face, as was his custom,
D'naz was checking on his weyrling pairs. He stopped and talked to a
few, then continued on his way. Spotting the bronze, he headed in
their direction.
"L'cor, Tonuth, how goes things with you both?"
"Well sir," said L'cor. Of course he was perpetually tired but then so
were the rest of his group of Weyrlings. Then he shrugged, "as well as
can be expected at this stage."
He chuckled a bit, recognizing the sign of a tired weryling. "It'll
get better lad, I promise," he clapped a hand on the boy's shoulder.
"Can I help you with anything? Do you have any questions? Any
problems?"
"Oh," he sighed and looked at his little bronze who seemed to grow
before his eyes. "He was complaining of a sore toe last night. What do
you think that would be?"
"Probably either growing pains or perhaps he might have injured it. I
can take a look if that's alright," D'naz spoke to both L'cor and
Tonuth.
"Yes, please do," said L'cor. Tonuth moved forward and offered the
offending claw.
D'naz stepped forward and held the foot and claw in his hand for a
moment. Bending, he peered at it for a moment.
"I'm just going to check something Tonuth. This might hurt just a
bit." D'naz reached forward and ran his fingers along the base of the
claw. He had seen the tiniest little sliver of something wedged
between the skin and claw. "There, I think I got." D'naz held up the
sliver for L'cor. "Happens sometimes when they're young and the area
around their claws hasn't hardened quite enough yet."
Other than a little spike of pain while the teacher dug for the sliver
the little dragonet felt only relief once it was removed.
"Oh, that feels better," said L'cor channeling his lifemates thoughts.
"Fantastic," D'naz replied with a smile. "I'll send one of the
dragonhealers by as well, just to check it out. We don't want any kind
of infection developing. You should be fine if you wash the spot
thoroughly three times a day and put on some numbweed if Tonuth needs
it." He'd dealt with these small issues many times before, but it was
still best to have a dragonhealer double check to make sure all was
well.
L'cor nodded and filed the information away for future reference
should anything similar happen again. "Thank you," he said with a nod.
"You're very welcome. You two let me know anytime if you need
anything," D'naz added, gently patting Tonuth on the shoulder.
"Yes sir," he said and then he an Tonuth took off across the sands.
