That's An Order

Writers: Paula, Eimi
Date Posted: 11th April 2013

Characters: Aileyan, Hygalia
Description: Hygalia and Aileyan have a chat before Threadfall about a certain bronzerider...
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 13, day 12 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentions: G'nir, U'kaiah

Aileyan wandered with leasure pace towards the Weyrwoman. She was
carrying two mugs with steam rising from them.

"Klah?" she offered one of the mugs with almost shy tone.

"Ah, thank the Egg," Hygalia smiled, taking the mug with a grateful
smile. "Very kind of you Aileyan." The Weyrwoman breathed in the
fumes with a contended sigh. "That's just what I needed."

Aileyan nodded and smiled. She had not forgotten how she had defended
her against G'nir and U'kaiah and she had tried to show her
appreciation with small gestures like this.

"Are you ready for another Fall?" The Weyrwoman asked, trying to make
conversation while she let the cool breeze sap some of the heat out of
her klah. She couldn't take hot food or drinks as well as some others
seemed to be able to do. Besides, she genuinely liked the thoughtful
young greenrider.

"As ready as ever," Aileyan replied and blew to her own mug to cool it
down. "Kjarrie's eager to go."

"They do get a bit twitchy when they know Thread is close," Hygalia
agreed, taking a tentative sip. Still too hot. "Any plans after?"

"Well, if U'kaiah isn't too busy, I'll meet him," Aileyan replied and
covered her slight blush with a sip from the klah.

"How nice," the Weyrwoman grinned with a knowing smile. "I'm sure
he'll find time for you," she assured her. Despite the bronzerider's
reputation, he had seemed quite attentive to the little greenrider as
long as Hygalia had been at the Weyr.

"He usually does," Aileyan said. She shook her head in a small gesture
of confusion. "It was never intended to be this serious."

"Sometimes it happens that way." Hygalia could understand Aileyan's
surprise. She was not the only one who seemed to have thought they
would have no lasting relationship. "Maybe you both were just in the
right place. From what I understand of U'kaiah, he was not known to be
so devoted to a lover before, and yet he seems quite smitten with you."

"He actually has a reputation of being...gold hunter," Aileyan said.

Hygalia knew all too well. And could understand that she needed a
little reassurance on that score. "Well," she said with an air of
amused indignity, "now I'm rather offended. He has never seemed to
show much interest in _me_."

Aileyan actually laughed softly. She had heard of U'kaiah's
relationships with Jaela and Kapera and Traelyn...and who know who
else.

"Perhaps he came to realize, as too many men do, that goldriders can be
more trouble than they're worth." With a resigned sigh and shrug,
Hygalia gave her wingrider a broad smile. "I think he has learned to
choose substance over rarity."

"Or quantity..." Aileyan murmured, thinking of his other family in
Dolphin Cove Weyr.

Hygalia's eyebrows lifted slightly at her comment. Her tone was soft
and gentle as she asked, "The woman at Dolphin Cove?"

Aileyan nodded and drank her mug empty.

The Weyrwoman nodded, understanding that her greenrider was taking his
other lover even harder than she had thought. "I come from outside the
Weyr too, you know. I was born into a world of politics where there
was all sorts of gossip about what Holder took what woman as his
mistress. No woman wanted to believe that their husband would be one
of 'those' kind of men. And the hurt and the betrayal in the eyes of
the women when they realized it _was_ their husband... It was
frightening. So when I came to the Weyr, you can be sure, I had a lot
of trouble understanding how men and women could behave the way they
do. I still do, sometimes."

"I have similar thoughts," Aileyan said. "Being result of adultry
myself...I've seen how it breaks a part a family," she sighed.

"U'kaiah made no promise to be faithful to you, did he?" Hygalia
wondered if there had been some misunderstanding in the terms of their
relationship.

"No, he didn't. He warned me not to expect him to be monogamous."

At least she had not suffered the betrayal that would have been.
"Aileyan, I wish I could explain what makes Weyr folk so free
with their bodies. The truth is, I'm trying to understand that myself.
But there is one thing that I am sure of. No matter who he spends his
time with, no matter how he may feel for this woman at Dolphin Cove, no
one is in any doubt of how he feels for _you_. Many a woman wishes a
man would look at them the way he looks at you."

Aileyan nodded thoughtfully. It did feel good to know other people had
noticed that she was more than causual fling to him.

Hygalia gave her a warm smile as she rubbed the greenrider's arm in a
gesture of comfort and understanding. "My advice to you, Aileyan, is
to take our mugs back, and then go find your Wingleader before he gets
too wrapped up in the Fall, and plant a great big kiss on his lips and
you will see just how important you are to him."

For a briefiest of moment, Aileyan thought that she wanted to be
kissed. After all she was now her wingleader, That didn't last longer
than eye blink, when she realized it was U'kaiah she was talking about.
"I'll shall do exactly that," she replied.

"Good." Hygalia held out her mug for her to take. "Thank you for the
klah, and the chat. There's still plenty of time before the Fall
starts, so don't hurry back. That's an order."

"Yes, m'am!" Aileyan saluted with a spark of humour.
