L'cor

L'cor

Happy. No other word could describe Malyna. Ecstatic. Thrilled.

She sat and stared and the little green body of Cayleryth and felt
tears of joy well up in her eyes. She'd lived her whole life in the
Weyr and had known her destiny was to be a rider, but under Cayleryth
had called to her, she hadn't known what that would truly mean.

She was tired, but far too excited to sleep. Sitting on the little
bench, Malyna tucked her knees up under her chin and simply watched
the rise and fall of the dragon's chest as she breathed deeply in her
sleep.

So caught up in watching, Malyna never even heard or saw the footsteps
as they approached.

L'cor led Tonuth through the passage toward the outside and the
feeding area. The little guy kept butting into his legs. }:Hungry
mine, hungry, hungry.:{

"I know you're hungry," he said out loud with a laugh.

Malyna looked toward the voice and smiled at the pair.

"I see yours is awake. My Cayleryth started eating and fell asleep
right out here before she could even finish!" Malyna said with a
chuckle and a shake of her head.

"Your L'cor right?" She asked. She hadn't had much chance to get to
know him before the Hatching.

"Thats right," he said with a smile. He began cutting up the meat
they'd been provided into bite sized chunks for his little bronze and
tossed them into his waiting maw. "Chew," he admonished the little
bronze.

};More, I'm so hungry:{

"I'm cutting as fast as I can," he replied out loud.

Then he looked at Malyna again. "Would you like me to carry her back
in when this walking bronze belly is done?"

Malyna smiled to him. "That would be great. I actually tried to wake
her, but trust me she won't have any of it. I was going to try again
in alittle while, but it would be great to not have to sit here on
this bench _all_ night just because she was too lazy to make it back
to our beds." Malyna snorted a laugh as she shook her head. Actually
she _would_ sit here all night if it meant she could gaze at the lithe
little body of Cayleryth.

L'cor continued to shovel the food into Tonuth's little mouth at least
until he slowed down a little and actually began chewing without being
reminded every moment. He still hadn't gotten over the stunning moment
when they'd bonded and he didn't want to leave the little guy to go to
the feast.

"Are you going to the feast once we get her back?"

"I'd love to," Malyna said, "but I couldn't just leave her here to
rejoin the feast." Malyna smiled. "I'm going to see if I can get her
to rise again." She pushed off the bench and moved towards the little
green dragon.

"Cayleryth, come on girl. Time to get up," Malyna knelt beside the
green body, running her hands down her back. The little dragon
shuddered, but didn't stir. Malyna looked back towards L'cor with a
sigh and a look of disbelief on her face. "Should I jolt her awake?"
She hated to do it, but what could she do?

L'cor smiled at the tiny green. Tonuth was bigger but not by much at
this early stage. He looked lovingly at his little lifemate. Nothing
anyone had said, not even Oria, could have prepared him for that rush
of love and connection. But there would be plenty of time for
reflection on that. Right now he needed to help Malyna. He bent down
and picked up the sleeping green. "Okay," he said. "Which way?"

"Oh!" Malyna seemed startled for a moment. "You really are going to
carry her!" She jumped up and quickly moved into the barracks. "Over
here," she motioned L'cor to the right where she and Cayleryth would
call home for many months ahead.

She was heavy and he certainly wouldn't be able to do it after she'd
grown much but right now he could manage it. "Yup," he replied and
then followed her to deposit the little green on her couch. Of course
Tonuth had followed them the whole way and promptly settle down to
sleep right next to Cayleryth.

"Well I guess they start early," he laughed.

"Oh my," Malyna replied. Her hand coming up to rest over her heart.
"It's sweet to see them together like that. They are close from the
start." Malyna hoped to get closer to her fellow candidates and make
some lasting friendships and relationships.

"Come on then," he smiled and grabbed her hand. "There's a party
waiting and they won't sleep long."

Malyna smiled and hurried after L'cor, with only a quick glance to
check on Cayleryth before she turned her attention to enjoying the
feast.
