Description: Malyna wonders about things as she waits for the eggs to hatch
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 6 of Turn 6
Another hatching, the young golden-haired girl thought as she leaned
against the wall. Her eyes were drawn to the oblong shapes sitting on
the sands. The whole of her life, Malyna had lived here, in the Weyr.
Would her life finally change _this_ time?
She'd missed the last few hatchings in recent Turns due to an injury
and an illness that had nearly claimed her life. She was fully
recovered now. Nothing would stand in her way...nothing except those
eggs. Her eyes were drawn to the eggs once again. _This_ time would be
_her_ time. She just knew it.
Malyna had never dreamed of being anything _but_ a dragonrider. Even
as a young child, she remembered running around the Weyrbowl
pretending to be on the back of a dragon. And then, there were the
_real_ Flights on the back of her father's dragon. She'd seen amazing
sights then and loved the time she'd spent with him.
To be a dragonrider. That had always been her goal. As she lay
recovering from her illness, she'd watched the dragons. Imagined what
it would be like to not just ride a dragon but to _be_ a dragon. Would
this time finally be her time to shine?
"Please pick me," she whispered into the nearly empty sands. The hour
was late or early, depending on how you viewed it. Yet this was her
favorite time to visit the sands and just watch the eggs. Malyna loved
examining each egg, wondering what color was inside. What each dragon
would be like. It had been a tradition of hers since the time she
could remember.
Only time would tell now. The Weyr was busy preparing. The eggs would
hatch any day now. Malyna found herself riddled with butterflies in
her stomach. She was nervous, anxious, and excited when normally she
was easy-going and laid-back. This time, however, she felt as though
her entire future depending on these eggs, lying here, waiting for
their moment to shine. Would it also be her moment to shine?
"Please pick me," she implored one last time before turning and making
her way back to the candidate barracks, wondering if this new day
would be the day she became a dragonrider.
