Description: Eilomar greets Asley upon her arrival
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 12, day 2 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: Merlish, Jenackt (not by name)
As he had been the first master-ranking harper assigned to the new hall,
Eilomar felt it was his duty to check out all the newcomers. Even the
printers, which had nothing to do with harpering (if you asked Eilomar). He
had heard that group had recently arrived from Dolphin Cove. He knocked
loudly on the door of the female apprentice dorm. He had get used to the
fact that they had dorm for females during the hall's stay in Dolphin Cove
Weyr.
Asley straightened up. She had just finished putting her things away but
she still needed to get things from the Headwoman to make her bed and get
that taken care of. She was also going to need new knots. Seeing no one
else going to the door, she walked up and answered it herself, surprised to
see the Master standing there. "Can I help you sir?"
"Ah, I heard we had some new people coming today and wanted to check how
you're settling in. I'm master Eilomar and you are?" Eilomar answered and
introduced himself.
Pleased at the polite reception after what had happened at her arrival,
Asley's shoulders relaxed just a bit. "Asley, senior apprentice printer
reporting for duty."
"Printer huh?" Eilomar said and then..he just didn't know what to else to
say.
"Well, there isn't that many women arrived yet," Eilomar replied. "I
haven't heard about anything serious, just some name calling and once it
was one of our own," meaning another apprentice. "The Captain has hand
picked two guards for the hall and the security is tight," he tried to
sound reassuring although he wasn't very good at this.
**Hopefully neither one was the man I met upon arrival** she thought
silently to herself. "In that case, is it okay for me to go outside alone
or should I go with someone?" Asley needed to know these things. Security
was a concern, guards or not.
"Depends where you're going. If you stay in populated, public places you
should be fine on your own. I would not go sneak all alone in nighttime or
in certain areas, like the dock or tavern," Eilomar replied, sounding
almost like he would have been lecturing his daughter.
"But what if I wanted to go walking in the daytime outside of the gates?"
Not that it was really on her mind to do that, but Asley needed to know
just how secure the place was. If needed, she could easily remove her knots
so no one would know what she was.
"That should be safe. Unless you go to the woods. I heard that there's wild
felines and holdless roaming the wilderness," Eilomar told her, shuddering
at the thought. He stick to hall and hold, no walks in the woods for him.
"Holdless? Really?" Her brows rose at that news. She had always thought
Emerald Falls was a civilized Hold, having been around for a long while.
"Yes, there's wanted posters all over the hold. I heard he attacked some
cotholder's daughter. There's too many abandoned holdings around Emerald
Falls. They attract the unsavory elements," Eilomar told her, lowering his
voice.
**Great I left the safety of the Weyr for this** "He? So there's just one?"
She wondered if she could print up some posters. That might be a good way
to put her craft to use for the Hold.
"I don't know," Eilomar admitted. "There's just one they talk about."
"Hmm..." Usually harpers knew everything. She'd get some details from some
of the folk once she reported and got her schedule and everything. "Well I
thank you for finding me, Master. I'm just about to go and get some things
from the Headwoman." She didn't know exactly where that was, so she
wondered if he might show her.
"You want me to show you around?" Eilomar offered. He was making extra
effort to be nice for the new apprentices.
"If you have time, that would be very good of you," she said hopefully.
Eilomar seemed helpful. She'd have to ask him if he needed any sheet music
printed or anything in future.
"Why don't we ask if there's other newcomers who need a tour too," Eilomar
said. He would save time if he showed around several people at once.
Poking her head back inside, she tried to see if anyone else was around.
After a few moments, she did round up a few new apprentices, though they
were juniors. Asley rejoined the Master and introduced them to him.
Fifteen minutes later Eilomar found himself showing a group of apprentices
around the new hall and wondered: how did that happen? Why was he being
_nice_ to them? Was life with Merlish softening him up?
