The bronzerider dipped his head to give the greenrider a quick kiss and
a wink. "Why don't you save me a seat and I'll grab us a couple trays
of food?" The couple had seemed to be especially close in the couple
days following her last Flight, putting in a special effort to find
little moments to steal here and there just to be near each other.
Sometimes it was little more than a longing kiss in passing, but it
was something. Today they had been lucky enough to find their
schedules allowed them to both have lunch at the same time.
The Weyrleaders also had decided to make a plan for lunch together, both
to touch base with each other and to mingle with their riders. It was
important that they seemed to "come down to their level" from time to
time. It wasn't that they rarely took the time because they thought
they were above them, but rather because they had a lot of extra duties
that just didn't leave time for much else. So Hygalia was happy they
both had found enough space on their desks to allow such a luxury as a
lunch meeting in the Dinning Cavern.
"I think I see a couple spots over there with some of the older riders,"
the Weyrwoman suggested. It might make them happy to get a bit of
special attention this afternoon. "Shall I save us some seats?"
"You do that, and I get us the food," G'nir agreed.
U'kaiah shuffled between rows of riders sitting down to eat their meals
as he made his way towards the food line. Slipping into the main aisle
between tables, he nearly ran straight into the Weyrleader.
**Great...** "G'nir," he nodded in reluctant greeting.
"U'kaiah," G'nir replied with a nod. "We keep bumping each other in
odd places."
"Odd, sir?" the Wingleader asked with an incredulous look. "It's lunch
time. I think the dinning cavern is a pretty believable place for the
two of us to be at this time of day."
"I was refering to something else," G'nir said with slightly malicious
glint in his eyes. "Tell me, did Aileyan mention me after her Flight?"
"No," U'kaiah said with a slight laugh. **Of course that bastard would
want to bring it up!** Though the Weyrleader had succeeded in bringing
to mind the sight of him embracing his lover after his dragon had
caught hers. A small spark of jealous welled up inside the
bronzerider, though he kept his smile in place and his tone turned even
more sarcastic. "Why, did you think she would?"
"She seemed be very...impressed by me after Flight," G'nir replied with
small grin. "She's surprisingly passionate for someone so reserved."
U'kaiah's eyes flashed, though he quickly covered it with a saucy grin.
Though the Weyrleader's words had struck home, and deep. **Just how
does _he_ know?** He was sure she hadn't stayed with him very long.
But had it been long enough? Was that why she was so quick to want to
'wash the smell' of him off of her? No. No. She had come back to
_him_. This sharding bastard was just playing with him. "You're lucky
if you can remember the middle of a Flight. To me it seems all a blur.
I _know_ you don't have any memories from afterwards."
Pale grey eyes observed U'kaiah's reactions. Did he spot hesitantcy,
was the younger bronzerider jealous? G'nir was just looking for
weakness. "Are you so sure?" he asked. "It's amazing what can happen in
a short time," his tone implied for something. For something that had
not happened, but he liked U'kaiah to think it might have. Anything to
provoke him.
A slight tightening in his gut at the thought was all that betrayed his
irritation at the thought. She would never... "Well, G'nir, I hate to
tell you this, but if anything _did_ happen in such an amazingly short
time, Aileyan would have been highly disappointed. She's a girl who
likes stamina in a man. That's why we suit each other so well."
"Oh, come on, she's a nice little hold-girl," G'nir said with sceptic
tone. "She can't have very high standards is she's hooked up with you."
"_Hall_bred, actually," U'kaiah corrected him. "And she may act
reserved to _some_ people, but there is a fire behind those pretty
eyes, I assure you." He stood a little straighter as he remembered the
way she had possessively claimed his lips in the hall outside her door.
"Not only did she have one forgettable tumble with you, she chose for
herself to go two rounds with me." The bronzerider's tone turned
sarcastically pitying. "You see, G'nir, some of us don't have to rely
on our _dragons_ to get women into our beds."
~*~
"What's keeping him?" Aileyan fidgeted. There was line yes, but it
didn't seem that long. She had found Hygalia and was keeping her a
company. "Maybe I should go and check?"
Hygalia scanned the crowd and thought she caught a glimpse of U'kaiah's
curly top standing above the crowd. He seemed to be in deep
conversation with... **Oh for Faranth's sake...** "Why don't I come
with you," she suggested with a smile that revealed nothing.
~*~
"I don't need a dragon to bed a woman," G'nir replied. "I have no
interest in her. My curiosity about her got satisfied and I do prefer
more..imaginative and experienced partners."
Now _that_ did it. It was one thing to hurl barely veiled insults at
each other, but how _dare_ he slander Aileyan to his face! U'kaiah
didn't bother hiding his contempt any more. "Oh you do, do you. Well,
keep thinking that way, G'nir, because that means I get to keep her all
to myself. Maybe you wouldn't discount her imagination if you had seen
her in the little outfit she bought for me the other night. Showing
just enough to make you want to fall on your knees and beg to see more.
And you will never have the experience of her painting your chest with
her tongue and making you hard as a rock before she wraps her lips
around your..."
"Ahem!" Hygalia coughed, trying to get their attention before U'kaiah
finished that sentence. **Oh you sharding idiots...** she thought,
plastering a smile on her face. **U'kaiah, you're gonna get it.** And
so was G'nir.
Aileyan's face turned bright crimson when she heard U'kaiah's vivid
description. Furtive glance around told her that others had heard it
too. She wished she could just sunk beneath the floor. She never been
so embarrassed in her life.
"A gentleman doesn't spread things like that," G'nir said with superior
tone. He didn't quite believe that from her...but your never know.
Noting her embarrassement, he did feel a bit sorry for her. She never
was his target, she was just... collateral damage.
U'kaiah's face turned ashen when he saw his lovers expression. Oh, he
had stepped in it, hadn't he. With both feet! "Aileyan?"
"I can't believe you told him that!" Aileyan yelled, embarrassment
making her furious. "You, you bronze...dick!"
"Sweetheart, I was _defending_ you," he said pleadingly, hoping that
she could at least see that!
The Weyrwoman stood silently watching, but not the young lovers. She
was much more interested in G'nir's role in all this.
"By spreading out our most private moments? I never been so
humiliated," she got tears to her eyes and turned to fled the scene.
"Sweetheart..." U'kaiah followed quickly behind her.
Hygalia stood still and continued to watch G'nir's face.
¨Aileyan just picked up pace to run. She didn't to face him or G'nir or
any other male.
G'nir frowned. This wasn't what he had aiming for. He wanted U'kaiah
get so angry to him that he would do something rash, like punch his
Weyrleader. Not to make her cry or ruin the relationship.
U'kaiah had not taken the bait. But the Weyrwoman certainly had
nothing to lose. And she would be damned /between/ if she was going to
let him embarrass and publicly humiliate one of her riders just for his
pleasure without getting a little in return. With a ready open palm,
she smacked G'nir square across the face and turned on her heel towards
the exit. "I would like to see you in my office, Weyrleader. Now."
"Hey! Why did you do that for?" G'nir was surprised. He wasn't always
able to follow the workings of a female mind.
