"Hey, Lecordin," Celebaz said as he planted one large boot onto the
bench next to the Candidate. He looped his hands into his leather belt
and with his flashy smile framed by long canines, he pointed to down
towards his crotch with his prominent nose. "Pretty impressive, eh?"

"Celebaz," he said and then flinched back a bit when he saw how close
the guy was. "Uh..." Lecordin tilted an eyebrow. "Oh," he shook his
head. "The buckle! Yeah that's very nice."

"Of course the buckle! What else would I mean?" his friend asked,
innocently confused before looking down and realizing just how it might
look. "Oh, sorry," he said with a slight blush, removing his foot from
the bench and the buckle from his belt. "Fine quality pewter and made
by a real Master Jewelry maker from the Smith Hall. Check the back, you
can see his mark." Celebaz handed the buckle to his friend to inspect
more closely.

Lecordin held it admiringly, "Very nice," he said as he ran a finger
over the relief on the front. "Solid too," he added handing it back.
"Where did you get it?"

"The Smith Hall. K'raci has a thing going with this Smith's son, so he
asked me to come along and distract the father while he got a little
time alone, which of course I'm always happy to help a friend." Not to
mention look for something new to try to sell! "K'raci got a little
loving, the Master Smith got a commission for 3 of these, and I have
already sold two! I just have this one left. Are you interested?"

Lecordin blinked, he was still trying to come to terms with some of
the behavior in the Weyr. It was far different than the hold in which
he was raised and he hadn't quite decided how to handle it. So, he
just smiled and paid attention to the main message about the buckle.
"Well," he said. "I'm kind of hanging on to my marks right now, until
I see what I'm going to need."

"What you're going to need?" Celebaz chuckled, giving his friend a
gentle push on his shoulder. "You're in a _Weyr_! Your food is
provided, your shelter is provided, they've even got store rooms full of
clothes and furniture if you need some. Weyrfolk have marks to _spend_,
not to save."

"And what about gifts for the ladies?" Lecordin laughed. "How about
that hmmm? They provide that too?"

His friend shrugged. "I have some of those, too, if you need them."
Though he had a feeling Lecordin was working a little too hard for women
if he thought he had to buy them presents _that_ often!

Lecordin shook his head with a grin. "Celebaz, you should have been a
trader!"

"Oh, Faranth, no," Celebaz chuckled. "I had enough journeying with my
father around the farms in our area. That was more than enough for me.
I'd much rather sleep in my own bed with four walls around me. Even
stone ones."

"Is that what you did? Farming?" Lecordin was honestly interested in
getting to know the other candidates. "How much," he reached into his
pocket for the marks to hand to Celebaz.

"Three quarters should do it. That's the friend price." He had paid
half a mark to have the buckle made, so a quarter mark profit wouldn't
be so bad.

"I've got that," he said and put the marks into the other young mans
palm. He looked down at the buckle. It really was well made and a good
price.

"I wasn't a farmer," his friend said as he pocketed the marks. "I was a
blacksmith."

"Oh?" He nodded, That made sense then for him to have contacts at the
Smith Hall. "Thanks Celebaz," he said and went off to his bunk to fit
it to his belt. He turned and walked backward for a moment. "Let's get
a drink later."
