Date: month 12, day 2 of Turn 6

Looking up at the Hall and the Hold nearby as she
approached, Asley was very quiet. To her, this was going to be a forced
imprisonment. She wouldn't be able to be who she was without the threat of
danger. Still, she would be able to craft and hopefully advance and that was
worth it. Her career was important to her.

On his watch, Huren watched
the approaching woman with a set scowl, but his eyes betrayed his interest
in the new feminine flesh coming into Emerald Falls. Standing at the main
entrance, the short, stocky man stood in the way of her entrance and refused
to move. "Who passes here?"

Asley looked at him, wondering if he was
really serious. Deciding he was, she sighed and answered. "Senior
apprentice printer Asley to report to the Harper Hall for duty." She knew it
wasn't much rank, but it was more than most females had outside of the Weyr
so she kept her shoulders straight.

His lip immediately lifted as he
took her in. "Apprentice?" He snorted and drummed his fingers against his
waist. "Didn't hear anything about any apprentice girl. I think you're in the
wrong place, girly."

"No sir. There is only one harper hall in the
south and this is it. I am to report to Master Thanja." There was a name
that perhaps he might cringe at. Asley had been travelling a long time and
she was hoping she could rest and eat soon.

Huren scowled deeply at
the mention of the Master. "Where are your hides for the transfer? I need
to see them. I can't just let anyone in here, you know."

As if her knots
didn't make it obvious that she wasn't just trying to get in. Anyway, why
else would she come to such a place while being a female crafter? Asley
sighed and produced them.

Keeping the grimace on his face, Huren
looked over the papers and shoved them back towards her with a muttered,
"Female crafters...obscene." He sniffed audibly and looked over her with
narrowed eyes. "Oh very well. I will escort you."

Following along
behind him, she watched as they walked, trying to learn the layout of this
place. It would be a long time until she did, probably. Holds were bigger
than Weyrs, though crafthalls were usually smaller. **Obscene am I? Wish I
could show you obscene!** She behaved, though, knowing this was her first
day and she was representing her craft.

He glanced behind him at the
young woman and hid a rather feral smile on his face. He could give her
quite the welcome, if he was so inclined and he didn't think that
Zandan would mind overly much. It would be a better idea to show this
little girl her proper place in this Hold. His grin slowly widened. He
could be just the one to do it properly too... He slowed just a little
and angled away from the proper path.

Asley noticed but she didn't say
anything. Maybe it was a shortcut. Still, though the printer was carrying
her pack with her and it was a job lugging all of that. Weighed down
as she was, she was trying not to trip on the stones.

Unfortunately
for Huren's plans to properly introduce the girl to Emerald Falls, he had
forgotten about the guard shift changing. As the new guards filed out of
the barracks, Huren scowled and glanced behind him. Well, it didn't mean
he could give her another little welcome. A smug smile grew on his
face.

He changed again, headed towards the large main complex, then with
an oily smile, held the door open for her. "Head down the hall to the right
and you'll find right where you belong." The path lead to the drudges'
area. "I'll follow you to make sure you get there alright."

"No thank
you. If this is it, I can find it from here." She really didn't like
that smile on his face. Alarm bells began to go off inside her head and
she remembered there was a belt knife tucked away where she could get to
it. Female
crafters outside of a Weyr had to think of safety
first.

Hiding a smirk, he waved her towards the drudges' barracks. "Of
course, you're a big strong girl after all. I'm sure you'll do just fine."
Let her bed with the drudges. It would show her what her place
was.

When Asley finally got there, she noticed it didn't look anything
like a crafthall. Looking around, she saw that the women there had
different rank knots-drudges' knots. It didn't take long for the young
printer to figure out what the man had done. Spitting and muttering under
her breath, she asked one of the women where the hall was and went on her
way. **It's no less than what I had expected. Welcome to Emerald Falls,
Asley. Welcome to the shellpit of your
life.**
