"Hello, dear," Sinla said with a faint smile as she came up next to
Yanley after whirling in and out of conversations for a while. "How
are you doing?" Sinla could only imagine how tough it had to be for
the other woman to witness a wedding after seeing her own marriage
fail. Perhaps her comfort couldn't do much, but she could offer it at
least.
"Hello, Sinla. I'm just fine," Yanley replied with sip from her glass.
"I'm happy your brother has finally settled down."
"Hmm, right," Sinla said, looking sideways at Yanley for a moment. She
figured Yanley knew her well enough to know she would have secretly
hoped for a better match for her brother. A better match in terms of
marks or social standing, that is. "She does seem like a sweet girl."
"Sweet, yes and timid," Yanley agreed, she had stuck her as kind of
doormat-person. Totally different than Sinla, which made Yanley wonder
the psychology behind this marriage.
"Very timid," Sinla sighed. She paused for a moment, looking Yanley as
if to judge her reaction. "I wish Chupsin had come to me for advice
first."
Yanley gave amused snort. "Male? Asking us advice? I wish only. You
know how men are, they rather get lost in woods than admit defeat and
ask for the way," her tone was sarcastic and not a little bitter.
"Too true," Sinla sighed. "Well, at least us women got each other,
right? Maybe you can help me with Alivya a bit when she's settled in
with Chup."
"Certainly, she needs help," Yanley replied with a nod.
Sinla's eyes darted across the room to land on Alivya. "She sure does.
Leave it up to Chupsin to give me something like her to work with,
really. But we'll get her there."
"Well, yes," Yanley didn't really anything to say that and decided to
change subject. "So, how is your daughter? Are you looking for suitors
for her?"
"Hmm, of course," Sinla laughed. "But I can't say I have found the
perfect match yet. Genna has a lot of ambition, she should have a
husband that fits with that, you know?"
"Yes, I do. Let me know if I can help. I still have connections to
Lazur Lake hold and my ex-husband has large family, enough nephews and
cousins to fill a hold," Yanley said.
Sinla hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should tell Yanley
about her ambitions for Genna. It was probably not a good idea if her
thoughts on the matter became known, though. "That's very kind of you,
Yanley, I'm just trying to find someone myself for now. But I'll
definitely keep that in mind."
"Good luck with it," Yanley said sincerely. Good match for her child
was every mother's dream.
"Thank you dear," Sinla smiled. "It's an ongoing project. Anyway, have
you got any interesting news for me?" Sinla loved a little girly
gossip every now and then. It made her feel young again.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but nothing just now," Yanley said with a
rueful smile.
"Well, I'm sure something interesting will come up soon enough," Sinla
said with a wink. "Weddings are hardly ever boring!"
"You're right about that!" Yanley replied with an arched eyebrow.
"Let me get you a drink while we wait for that, eh?" Sinla said with a
grin, before she swept back into the crowd. It would probably take
quite a while before she'd make it back with their drinks, if she
remembered to return at all after a few more conversations.
