Characters: S'yei, Blayre
Description: S'yei and Blayre hash out their feelings for each other
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 8, day 13 of Turn 6

S'yei tried not dwell too much on his relationship, or lack thereof,
with Blayre. They'd spent the night together, one time, and even then
they'd slept beside of each other in the same bed. The bluerider still
remembered, vividly, how Blayre had pulled away when he'd tried
holding hands with the vintner in public. S'yei could tell that Blayre
liked him, on some level, and yet, S'yei couldn't be sure how far
Blayre's feelings really went. S'yei certainly didn't want to start
caring deeply for Blayre to only have the vintner reject his advances
or decide that men weren't for him.

So tonight they were going out, on a "real" date this time. They were
heading out, away from the Weyr to the beach where they could be
alone. S'yei had packed lunch, and a blanket of course, onto Yalith.

}:You're nervous.:{ The blue observed.

**If things don't go well this time, Yalith, then I'm finished trying.
I don't want to develope feelings for someone who will never feel the
same.**

Blayre spotted Yalith easily having become familiar with his dark
hide. As he made his approach he gave a little wave and a weak smile.
Admittedly tensions between the two men had been high as of late thanks

to the awkward way Blayre had ended their last encounter. He had given
the instance much thought, how could he not, and planned on discussing
it with S'yei.

"There you are," S'yei smiled as he extended a hand from where he sat
on Yalith's neckridge, "all set?" He asked, hoping his light mood
would set the vintner at ease. After all, he wanted this trip out to
the beach to turn out well, and that wasn't going to happen when them
being tense and awkward.

Blayre didn't hesitate in taking the hand up. After settling himself
behind the bluerider, he placed an arm around the man's waist and
squeezed lightly. Already he was feeling more at ease. "All set."

The feel of Blayre's arm around his waist was comforting to S'yei and
he felt a little blossom of hope in his heart as Yalith leapt into the
air. Winging up away from the Weyr, the blue pulled them /between/ for
a breath before they were coming out above the beach. The weather was
perfect that day for sitting out on the sand, without it being too
hot, or cold.

Yalith landed on the beach and crouched so that S'yei and Blayre could
dismount, "I brought us some great winetoday." S'yei said with a
smile as he slid off of Yalith's neckridge.

Blayre took the skin from S'yei and inspected its's label. "You did
indeed," he complimented. "It seems they maybe some if my skills are
rubbing off on you." His tone suggested he was merely teasing and his
wink solidified that fact.

That made the bluerider's grin widened, "I owe it all to you, my dear
vintner." S'yei acquiesced with a little bow as he spread out a fur
onto the sand, and swiftly followed by flopping down on it to open up
the basket and beginning bringing out the rest of the picnic.

Blayre followed suit and arranged himself opposite the bluerider. "So,
have you been keeping busy?" He started the conversation plainly
figuring he'd warm up to the more pressing topics. The question was a
fair one as they seen little of each other since that one night.

"I have," S'yei confessed. It had been a busy couple of sevendays for
the bluerider, and he'd needed the space to really think about what
was happening, or not happening, between himself and Blayre. "How has
the vintner lab been?"

"Coming along better than expected for my first try. I've sent a
message to the Master Vintner for a meeting but haven't heard back
yet. You should come down and see it when you get the chance, S'yei."
Blayre nibbled at some cheese after he finished speaking. He still
depot as if the issue were being flitted around. They had just arrived
and settled after all. He decided to be patient at least for a little
linger even though it.was eating him up inside.

S'yei nodded as he chewed, "I would love to come by and see the place
now that you've got it all fixed up." Even though his duty was to his
Weyr and dragon now, S'yei still found vintning as interesting as it
had been when he'd been a journeyman.

"Of course, yes. Whenever you can find the time. I'd love to have an
experienced outside opinion. Speaking of experience," the Vintner
paused and held up a finger while he took a large drink of wine.
"There's something I think should be addressed. Something about us. Do
you know what I'm talking about?" Blayre hoped he wouldn't have to
explain himself fully.

At the word "us" S'yei felt his gut clench. He wasn't sure where
Blayre was leading with this question and so he merely shook his head,
waiting for the man to continue. The bluerider's biggest fear was that
the vintner was going to say that he'd changed his mind and that all
of this was too new, or uncertain, or shells, that he didn't even
_like_ men. S'yei would feel like such a fool then, he would never be
able to face Blayre again.

S'yei's rare speechlessness didn't help Blayre's confidence but he tried to
not let that phase him. "Well, I've been giving a lot of thought to the other
night and...I think I'm ok now. I was a little unsure about it before but it
just started to make sense the more I thought about it, you know? Let's face
it, I'm not getting any younger here. So, I think I'd like to explore this side
of myself with you. You've been such a good friend and it would be unfair for me
to torture you for much longer. What do you say?"

The bluerider, so relieved by Blayre's admission, reached out, grabbed
the front of the vintner's tunic and pulled the man in for a kiss. It
was the kind of kiss that S'yei had been wanting to give to Blayre
since the day they'd met. Breaking a part from it for a moment, S'yei
murmured, "Thank you, Blayre, for giving me, us, a chance."

At first the kiss took Blayre's breath away because of the suddeness
of it all but it only took a moment before he gave in completely and
accepted the kiss. He wasn't really surprised by S'yei's move, in fact
he had pretty much expected our and he enjoyed being right. After the
kiss was broken, Blayre quickly surveyed his mind for any guilt or
discomfort. He was relieved to find only satisfaction and an eagerness
to continue. It was as if his body was saying 'Ugh, finally!'

"I wasn't sure how much longer I could deny myself actually. I've
thought about it a lot and the more I thought about it, three more
frustrated I would get. I had to. You have just been so patient and
such a good friend, S'yei. You deserve this." His voice turned husky
as he spoke those last words. This time, the Vintner went in for the
kiss and it felt almost as good as the first.

It was a dream come true, as corny as that sounded, and S'yei wasn't
going to pass up this opportunity, not when Blayre was being so open
and willing. Taking the vintner into his arms, S'yei pulled the man
down onto the sand beside him, their lips still sealed together as
Yalith curled around them to give the couple privacy from any others
who might be on the beach.
