Zathris

The healer had come to the Lord Holder's office on a very specific
errand. He was hoping it would go well since he really did like the
idea of running off to the mountains with Alivya, at least for a little
while. Before too long she wouldn't be able to travel at all so it had
to be now.

"Enter," Zathris called, his voice muffled by the door, but audible
enough that the person behind it could tell what he'd said. Normally,
sound didn't travel through that door easily, but Zathris could project
when need be.

Opening the door, Chupsin slipped inside and closed it behind him.
He'd been in here many times so he didn't waste time looking around.
"Good day, mlord. Thank you again for the wedding gift. Very useful."

"Good, I'm glad you liked it." Zathris usually chose practical gifts -
after all, useful was always something needed and came in handy. "How
are you and your new bride getting along?"

"Quite well. That's actually why I'm here and I'm sorry it didn't come
up before now. A family member of mine has offered his cothold for us to
have a sort of honeymoon if I can get the time off." He wished it wasn't
so short notice really, but there it was.

"Really? That sounds like an excellent opportunity." Zathris couldn't
fault the man for the chance. "And you want to take advantage of it?"

"Alivya would be pleased and I'm sure I'm due for a vacation. Of course
it would leave Dragin in charge while I'm gone, if you're fine with
that." He had a completely different style than the junior journeyman,
but the man was competent at least.

"I don't see why not." Zathris couldn't fault the man - plus he was a
hard worker and he knew Chupsin didn't take breaks very often. "How
long must we deal without our best healer?" He grinned to make sure
that Chupsin didn't think he was trying to limit him too much.

"A sevenday would be fine enough. I wouldn't want to stay gone longer
than that and anyway, we'd rather be back in the Hold before Thread
falls." The idea of trying to mount their own two-person groundcrew was
ludicrous.

"Yes, that would be good. You haven't taken any time away in my
memory. I'd say you deserve some time - particularly with your new
wife." Zathris didn't want Chupsin to get burned out.

"Wonderful. She'll be happy to hear that. How are your children?"
Sometimes twins were prone to more problems than individual children.

"They're doing well, growing like weeds." Zathris' face spread into a
bright smile. "Pretty soon you'll probably have children of your
own - then perhaps yours and ours can play together."

"That's true indeed." Of course Zathris didn't know how soon, which was
a good thing. "Glad to hear they're doing well. Less work for me and
less work for the Lady Holder and their minders that way. Of course if
anything is ever needed, I'm here."

"And we are grateful." Chupsin was a good healer and Zathris was glad
to have him indeed. "And you deserve some time off. Just let me know
when you leave and return - and hopefully we won't have any disasters
while you're gone."

"Will do. I'll leave you back to your business. I've got an ingrown
toenail that needs seeing to anyway." He sighed, knowing his work was
never done.

Zathris chuckled. "Of course. I'll see you later, Chupsin."
