Characters: Kwiksol, Eilomar
Description: The Journeyman asks the Master for a little help
Location: Harper Hall
Date: month 7, day 20 of Turn 6

Kwiksol carried another box of the smaller instruments into his shop
and set them on one of the workbenches. His shop was shaping up
nicely and he had only a bit of unpacking left to do.

He still had to get his room assignment from the headwoman but he knew
she was here and it was just a matter of time before he found her and
where he'd be living. The Weyr had been a great experience, one that
he wouldn't trade, but now he'd have much more time to dedicate to his
crafting and ultimately that made him happier.

The Hall was still fairly empty and new with the accompanying smells
of newness. Off and on as he unpacked and put things away, he heard
footsteps in the halls.

Even though he'd been somewhat trained he knew his vocal production
was never going to be of any sort of solo quality. Oh he could hold
pitch and join in the large choirs but he wouldn't be singing any
balads in small groups. Nevertheless he hummed as he worked.

Being the highest ranking Harper at the new Hall, Eilomar saw that his
duty was to supervise things. That included walking around and poking
his nose in to things and giving advice where it wasn't needed.

Those who knew him, just nodded and ignored his words, although they
noted that he wasn't as hard as before. His young wife had obviously
mellowed the old singer a bit. Those who didn't know him, well, they
tended to get annoyed and argued him, that's when they got to meet the
old, mean Eilomar.

During his "rounds", Eilomar heard the humming and peeked into the
instrument maker's shop. "Ah, hello journeyman..." what was the
journeyman's name again... he had to think a bit, since he normally
didn't have much to do with them..."Kwiksol, was it?"

Kwiksol straightened from the container he was emptying into one of
the storage cupboards. "Master Eilomar," he greeted the man with a
smile. "Aye, it's Kwiksol. A fine new place this is, don't you think?"

"It is," Eilomar agreed. He was proud of the new hall, almost like he
had designed and built it himself.

"How is the new choir room? Acoustics good?" He hadn't had a chance to
do much exploring since he'd been mostly unpacking and such.

"It's still unfinished," Eilomar frowned unhappily. He wanted to get
to use that room! Of course, his choir was still in Dolphin Cove. "And
how about the instrument workshop? If you have complaints or requests,
I'll me more than happy take them for the builders."

Kwiksol knew when to take advantage of an offer. "Thank you Master
Eilomar," he said fervently. He pointed across the room at a wall
that was half covered in pegboard. "You see that," he asked. "That
pegboard was supposed to go all the way to the ceiling. I only have
half the room I need to hang instruments." Some would be in various
stages of drying and others were stored that way simply to keep the
finish from getting banged up.

"Pegboard, right. I'll mention it to the foreman as soon as I see
him," Eilomar promised. When it came to complaints, he had a good
memory.

"Thank you Master Eilomar," he said with a small bow. Kwiksol was not
ignorant of the Master's reputation and was not one to cause any waves
in that regard. No, in fact, he had witnessed the man's ability to
make a Journeyman into a quivering lump of jelly and didn't want to be
in that position himself... ever. Then thinking quickly it would be
best to ask the man for some advice to stroke his ego a little. "Now
that you're here sir," he started. "I was wondering if you had any
thoughts on where the best places are locally to find seasoned wood. I
realize we're in winter now but I'd like to get to the best areas
sooner rather than later."

"Well, I was born and grew up in Emerald Falls," Eilomar remarked with
his chest swelling with pride.
"I'll say Forest Spring hold, they had the best woods. They can
provide you with some rarities you can't find anywhere else," he
continued on more professional tone.

"Oh good," said Kwiksol with a smile. "Then you'd certainly know. Who
do you think would be best to provide me with an introduction to the
Holder?"

"I can give you some names. I think the holder has a grandchild here
at the hall," Eilomar said.

He bowed with his hand over his heart. "That would indeed be a great
favor Master."

"An introduction is easy to arrange," Eilomar was preening like a
proud green in a mating heat.

Internally Kwiksol smiled but didn't let anything show on his face.
Master Eilomar could be extremely effective if he chose to engage and
the Journeyman really did want access to that hard wood. "Many thanks
Master."
