Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 7, day 6 of Turn 6
Notes: Mentioned: S'yei, Solieira
The hatching was over and everything had gone well. Rhosyn and the guests
had enjoyed the wine and she wanted to be sure the vintner realized he had
done a good job. So she invited him to her office after she finished with
wing drills. Walking inside, she took off her heavy flight gear and began to
drink water to cool down.
Blayre ran a hand through his hair in an attempt to tame it a bit before
entering the Weyrwoman's office. The Hatching had gone very well and the
clean-up, or in his case the re-stocking, was going just as smoothly. He was
confident that this meeting with Rhosyn was nothing to fret about as he
could see no reason why she should be annoyed with him.
He knocked before entering and nodded his head in greeting to the goldrider.
"Good day, Weyrwoman. How are you recovering from the Hatching?"
"Well enough journeyman since I'm flying again, thank Faranth." She turned
to face him, leaning against the wooden sideboard. "I wanted to say that I
appreciate your help in the selection process this time. Everyone enjoyed
themselves and the drink and I believe your expertise was to thank for it."
Blayre grinned, pleased with himself and his work. "It was no problem at
all, Weyrwoman. I'm just glad everyone enjoyed themselves and the wine
as much as you and I did. Any time I can help folks have a good time, that's
when I love my craft the most. I guess that's why I do what I do."
"I have a question for you. While you're here, do you think you might try to
improve the Weyr's wine operation? In the past, we've really sort of let it
fall by the wayside, but it would be nice not to depend on tithe so much.
Of course Rhosyn also liked the idea of having their own vintage and she
was all for bolstering their items to barter with.
The Vintner had noticed the lack of a River Bluff brand. Almost everywhere
he'd traveled had had its own home produced wine. However, Blayre had not?
yet had a chance to manufacture a vintage on his own. It was, however, part of?
the experience he must gain before he could try for his senior journeyman's knots.
"I'd love to. I had noticed the state of the operation myself and had intended
on inquiring about it but then the eggs came and the idea sort of got pushed
to the wayside."
"Of course our headwoman would love to assist you with whatever you might
need. We might even have some weyrfolk who might try to apprentice to help
you." She knew giving her people an occupation and a skill was very useful
to both the Weyr and its folk.
Immediately Blayre thought of S'yei even though he knew his help would be
hard to come by. Rider duties did come first as he understood it. Even still, the
man at least share in his excitement about the project. "I'll be sure
to get in touch with her. This new project is now priority one."
"Good. Keep me posted and I'm sure I'll get reports from her. I can't wait
to taste the first offering." She smiled, excited about this. "I'll let you get
to it then. Solieira can take you into the area where we have the equipment
and everything.
"I most certainly will, Weyrwoman. Trust me, I'm as excited as you." With a
genuine smile and a polite bow, Blayre exited the office, plans already squirming
around in his head.
