Description: E'naer takes some time off to rest on deserted, tropical island.
Location: Elsewhere on Pern
Date: month 7, day 2 of Turn 6
E'naer had taken a sevenday off from his duties. He needed vacation, needed
to spend some time just by himself. Need to clear his head of everything
that was going on in his life. So he and Eillispeth headed for this little
tropical island middle of the ocean. A friend had once showed it to him,
many turns ago. It was perfect retreat. Too small to be settled or
interesting, yet big enough that there was fresh water, fruit trees and
large beach with cliff and a cave. When they landed on the beach, they
spotted a fair of wild firelizards that soon disappeared. Eillie was
disappointed, she liked flits. E'naer dismounted and unloaded her,
removing the straps.
**The cave isn?t large enough for you, will you be all right out here?** he
asked.
}: Certainly. It's warmer here than home. I just dug myself a wallow to
this sun warm sand,:{ Eillispeth replied and sounded like she was going to
enjoy it.
**Good, I check the cave.**
To get to the cave, he had to wade in waist deep water. The entrance was
just a narrow opening in the cliff side. The cliff itself overlooked the
sea. After the opening, there was corridor with the sand covered floor
rising upwards. The bottom was littered all kind of flotsam the waves had
pushed in. The corridor opened up to a decent sized cave. Part of the cave
floor was sand, rest was rock. Some critter had been living in the cave
and E'naer had to clean it out before he could store his gear and spread
his camp furs. Then he took his fishing gear and went to catch his food.
The next few days went like this: he slept in a cave, fished, swam or just
relaxed on the beach, laying in the warm sand next to his dragon. At some
point, he started to explore the island. Eillie amused herself trying to
coax the wild flits out when he wasn't around or hunting on her own. On
fifth day, while exploring he found it. ThetTreasure of the island. A nest
full of firelizard?s eggs. Not just any clutch but one with a queen egg.
There was no mistaking of it. The size of it and the golden sheen of the
shell. His cry of joy brought Eillispeth to the spot.
}: Little queen,:{ Eillispeth murmured.
"Should we take it?" E'naer found himself talking with hushed tone although
there was no one around.
}: Why not? :{
**Well, the firelizards could get offended if we take away their future
queen.**
That made the green dragon snort with amusement. }: Like they would
remember it. Besides, you'll probably save her from the tunnelsnakes.:{
**There?s tunnelsnakes in this island?** E'naer hadn't noticed that.
}: I ate one,:{ Eillie replied offhandedly.
That decided it. E'naer rushed to his campsite to find something to store
the egg in. The only one he could find was his klah pot. That meant no more
klah. He carefully filled the pot with warm sand and placed the egg inside
it. **What do you think if we cut this bit short and go back home?**
}: Fine with me, I?m getting lonely. Nobody to gossip with. :{
So they returned to the campsite and E'naer started to pack up his things
and clean up. When he was done, there was no sign that he ever been in the
island. He was full of excitement and feeling better than in months when he
dismounted Eillispeth. He tucked the klahpot with its precious cargo
inside his flight jacket. It was more than little uncomfortable, digging
against his stomach. But he was ready to suffer a little for his little
gold!

Coming out of /between/ to the winter of Dragonsfall Weyr was shock after
the tropical climate. Eillispeth called her greeting to the watch dragon
and circled to land on her ledge.
}: Nice to be home.:{
**It is,** E'naer agreed. He opened the straps and took out the klahpot.
**You thing the hatchling made the trip unharmed?** He examined his
treasure with worried frown.
}: She's fine:{ Eillispeth assured him.
**How do you know? Can you hear her?** E'naer was startled.
}: No, she doesn't think. I can sense the life inside it,:{ Eillispeth
replied.
That was good enough for E'naer. Now he just had to get the egg somewhere
warm and wait for it to hatch!
