So Good to Come Home To

Writers: Eimi, Paula
Date Posted: 31st March 2012

Characters: U'kaiah, Aileyan
Description: U'kaiah comes home to Aileyan
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 6, day 3 of Turn 6
Notes: Follows: "I'm Going to Miss You"

It had hard to say goodbye to Tavia and their little Kaiavin. The time
they had spent together had been such a blur. It was a once in a
lifetime opportunity. He knew full well that as a dragonrider he could
not hope to ever have that much time with his little boy ever again.
The next time he saw Kaiavin days will have passed, and then sevendays.
He would grow and change so quickly, and U'kaiah was well aware that he
would miss it all.

His only consolation was that he was not going home to nothing. Aileyan
was there, waiting for him. And little Ravyan. That thought more than
anything had made his feet feel a little less heavy, a little more
willing to walk away. Now, as he passed from the bright of Dolphin Cove
into the dark night of Dragonsfall, he felt anxious to see her. He
didn't even try to stop back at his weyr. There would be time before
drills for that. Instead he directed Kalamath to land on the
greenrider's ledge.

Quietly he stole into her weyr, knowing that sane people in Dragonsfall
were already asleep. By the dark and stillness that greeted him, he
could tell that Aileyan had long since gone to bed. He made a quick
stop at Ravyan's bedside, smiling fondly as he saw how the little boy
had pulled his favorite stuffed dragon closely to him. U'kaiah gave the
boy's hair a gentle caress before leaving him be. They would see each
other in the morning.

Tiptoeing into Aileyan's sleeping area, he opened the glow just enough
to see the sleeping greenrider's face. It brought a tender smile to him
own. She really was so beautiful. His arms ached to hold her, but he
knew she needed her sleep. Quietly pulling off his boots and shirt, he
set them by the chair next to her bed. He did his very best not to wake
her as he slipped onto her bed from the opposite side, scooting close
enough to her to feel her body heat. A daring arm curled around her
middle as he lay his head on the pillow behind her, breathing her in.
**Shards, I didn't realize how much I missed you till now...** he
thought as he closed his eyes.

Aileyan wasn't sure if it was dream or had she half wakened when U'kaiah
slipped into her bed. She did instinctively snuggle closer to him, arm
reaching out to touch him.

He wondered if she were fully awake, or just shifting in her sleep.
U'kaiah whispered her name just to be sure. Much as she needed rest, a
very selfish part of himself hoped he had woken her.

"U'kaiah?" her eyes opened. "Am I dreaming?" her voice was drowsy.

"No sweetheart," he chuckled, tightening his arm around her and giving
her neck a soft kiss. "I'm here."

"U'kaiah! You're back. How did it go?" She was fully wake now. She was
also woman and naturally curious about other women's births.

"It's hard to say. It all went so fast, and I have nothing to compare
it to. But I think it went well. Tavia bore threw it like a veteran,
I'd say, and in the end, there was this perfect little boy. So I guess
it went wonderfully." He wished he could remember more details, but it
was all so new and there was just so much to take in all at once. "You
should see Kaiavin, Aileyan. He's so beautiful. And there is _no_
doubt who the father is with his head of hair."

"I'm glad to hear that everything is well. Kaiavin? He must be
adorable." She wasn't jealous, not just now. She was too happy to have
him next to
her.

"You're going to love him. I can't wait to introduce you to him." And
to Tavia, she would be willing. "I think Ravyan would be fascinated to
see someone smaller than himself."

"That's safe bet," she murmured.

"How have you both been? I thought about you often. Wondered how you
were doing." He had even took a little time to find them some little
presents, just to prove that they had not been far from his thoughts,
even with all that was going on.

"Just fine. It's been uneventful here," Aileyan replied.

"Oh now, there has to be _something_." Though the thought was
appealing, he didn't quite believe that Aileyan just spent her time
pining away for him only. "What did you do on the restday?"

"Caught up with Demalia," Aileyan replied and yawned. It was middle of
the night.

"You're a funny one, you know," he said with tender amusement. "Some
girls will talk your ear off any chance they get, and you I haven't seen
in almost a sevenday and I can hardly get a full sentence out of you.
Didnt' Ravyan do anything funny? Did you think about anything in
particular? There has to be _something_ you can tell me."

"I'm barely wake!" Aileyan protested. "Well, I had to fish Dagon out of
stew..." she said and giggle when she remembered that. "Then it had to
be washed and dried and Ravyan didn't stop crying until Demalia's mother
gave him special treat."

"Oh, shards," U'kaiah laughed, leaning his head against hers. "I could
just see that, too! Man how he loves that sorry little thing. I wish I
could have been there."

"Oh, it was quite a scene," Aileyan said.

"I'll believe that. That little tyke doesn't complain much, but when he
does he can do it loud and with quite a bit of ferocity." He snuggled a
bit closer to the greenrider. "I think he gets that from you."

"I'm not loud," Aileyan protested.

"Well, that's just because Ravyan's in the next room," he said, nuzzling
her neck teasingly. "You are fierce, though. I saw J'nev's face after
that Flight."

She only shrugged to that.

He didn't want to remind her that when she wanted to, she could be quite
stubborn as well. He had learned that on a couple occasions the hard
way. It was better not to bring up _those_ episodes. "So did you miss
me at all while I was gone?"

"Of course I did," she replied softly.

That brought a soft smile to his lips. She didn't often admit to her
feelings. His fingers laced through hers. "I'm sorry I woke you up. I
just couldn't wait until the morning to see you."

"Well, now that I'm wake and you're there..." her voice took a sensual,
suggestive note and she inched bit closer.

"Oh, well, I don't know... You seem pretty tired..." he replied
teasingly, though his fingers couldn't help but caress up arm at the
suggestion.

"Not that tired," she nearly growled.

"Oh, well then, I guess it will be up to me to wear you out so you can
get a proper night's sleep," he grinned, turning her face towards his so
he could give her a proper kiss. "You are so good to come home to."

"Mmmh," how could you reply to that, except with passionate kiss.
