Location: Emerald Falls Hold
Date: month 6, day 14 of Turn 6
Kitchen wasn't the usual place where the Lord Holder could be met. But Corowal liked to do unexpected things. Like this, he could have sent any drudge or staff member, instead of coming himself. He thought it was fun to go places and meet various people.
"Hi there, " he greeted the kitchen staff. "Can I have large pitcher of klah, plate of cookies and some sandwiches delivered to my office after a half a candlemark, please?" he asked.
The young woman nodded, her eyes huge at seeing the Lord Holder himself in the kitchens.
Nikhan was standing back and to one side. He couldn't help but overhear."Lord Corowal! Perhaps you'd like to try some of this cake instead? It's a new recipe." The second batch of course, he wouldn't have offered it if he wasn't totally happy that it was suitable for a man of rank to eat!
"What kind of cake?" Corowal asked curiously, and walked over to the baker. "You were Nikhan, right?"
"Yes, I'm Nikhan, but that would be telling!" He put a finger to his lips to signal that he wouldn't speak, but grinned behind it. "Trust me, you'll love it."
Corowal grinned, he liked the man's sense of humour. "Your secret is safe." He took a slice of the cake and bit down to it. "Mmmm, yummy. What's in it?"
The baker raised an eyebrow. Had the Lord Holder just said 'yummy'? Well it was true! "Flour, sugar, poultry eggs... The rest is a craft secret. I can say there are a few different spices in it and some fruit."
"I can taste nutmeg," Corowal said. "My children would love it too, as a dessert," he said. "You can add that cake to the tray too. I'm sure my holders like it."
"I hope they do. There's nothing as satisfying as having people enjoy my food. And enjoying it myself! I'll make sure to have more sent up to you later, Lord Corowal."
"Thank you," The Lord Holder said. The girl approached timidly and asked what kind of sandwiches they should be. "Why don't you make a wide selection? I'm having meeting of five, so make sure nothing runs out."
"The bread just out of the oven," Nikhan said to the girl as she looked to be reaching for the bread left over from breakfast. "It'll have to cool for a while, but it'll be fresh.
She nodded and moved away.
"So, you're enjoying your work here?" Corowal asked, looking around the busy kitchen.
"What's not to like?" Nikhan nodded. "Great kitchen, great staff. Great hold." Of course he _had_ to say that!
"Music to my ears," Corowal grinned.
"Just bring honest, " the baker replied. "I know everyone at the gathers enjoys coming here too. The bakery's stall is always very popular too." He added, being honest again, not bragging.
"No wonder when your products are this good," Corowal said with merriment dancing in his eyes.
Nikhan just grinned. It was a fact, he had a knack for this. He wasn't conceited about it, it was his craft, his 'thing'. If only he was so good with women! "Is ere anything else I can do for you, Lord Corowal?"
"Not today, just keep up the good work!" Corowal replied. The girl came to tell him that the tray was ready. Corowal instructed her to take it the meeting hall. He was not going to carry it by himself.
"Will do," the baker nodded and went back to work.
