Description: Green Thistle rises.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 6, day 19 of Turn 6
Tourniquet had been watching. This one was due soon and the bronze knew it.
Keeping his whirling eyes on the green, he tried to be inconspicuous,
eating a bit
of meat in the corner.
Bramble was hissing at the competition. Thistle was his! His sibling/mate.
The green
in question was basking in attention and obviously showing off her gleaming
grass-green
hide.
Seeing the other firelizards begin to crowd her, Tourniquet finished his
meat
and began to stretch every bit of his body. A green wasn't like chasing a
gold
but it would require some harder flying. He was freshly washed and oiled
thanks
to his meticulous human. His hide had an attractive shine to it. He flew
over and
landed, intending to say hello to Thistle before the action started.
Thistle greeted the bronze with flirty chirrup and gave Bram a look that
just said: if you
think you own me... Then she jumped to the air and flew out of window,
calling her suitors
to follow her. Yanley stopped her work to watch her go, the males following
close.
Tourniquet wasn't as fast as some of the blues and browns, but the bronze
was skilled and he knew this game. Racing through the sky, he didn't let her
out of his sight. His eyes travelled over her form, her wings, and her
tail. She
was perfect. With fire in his belly, he passed some of the smaller males.
Bram stayed close at her wake, growling at the challengers. Thistle enjoyed
the attention and led the males to a merry chase in the clouds. She was
swift and agile, sparking green gem in the sky. She taunted them with her
calls, encouraging those who could stay with her, mocking those who fell
out of the race.
Well cared for, the bronze had hide that shown and he was quite healthy.
Like any healthy male, he didn't stop. Inching closer and closer to her, he
readied for the moment when she would flag and need to be caught. He would
be there.
Soon there was no others left but Bram and the bronze. Thistle admired his
hide. Wasn't he a handsome one? And sometimes, the familiarity breeds
contempt... She encouraged him, let him closer, while ignoring poor Bram.
Of course Tourniquet wasn't stupid and he took his chance, ready to assert
his superiority. Grabbing her out of the sky, he allowed them to fall as he
twined quickly with the green, sending her all the feelings he was being
overwhelmed with and committing himself to the mating at the same time.
Dejected Bramble returned to his human, chittering his bitter
disappointment. Yanley caressed him, wondering whose flit the lucky bronze
was. She could feel Thistle's rapture and it made a flush creep up to her
cheek.
Chupsin was standing very still, leaning on the counter in the infirmary.
The healer smiled as he felt the satisfied bursts from his firelizard. It
wasn't much, but it was enough to leave him with a feeling of a job well
done and he did smile more often than usual as he worked.
