Cyradis

Cyradis

After the last time she'd come to Dolphin Cove for a hatching, Rhosyn
had done an about face. The Weyrwoman had managed to make a few
alterations to one of her dresses to wear. There was a filmy see
through layer atop a blue dress that came to her knees. The top came
over one of her shoulders, with flowers embroidered into the see
through lace. A blue band came around her waist. Blue slippers
completed the outfit.

After her conversation with R'sedel, she had to admit that she was
curious to meet the new goldrider at Dolphin Cove. The woman was
older, she knew, which could be a good thing in many ways.

Cyradis walked through the crowd with a half smile pasted on. She
hardly knew anyone here yet but she knew how to work a crowd. She
stood with a group of holders in a floor length gown of lavender lace
over a white under dress. It was tied in a halter around her neck
leaving her arms and upper portion of her back bare. She smiled and
conversed and glad handed those that approached her.

Tonight was Meledei's night though and she didn't intend to eclipse
the younger rider in any way so she circulated without trying to bring
attention to herself.

Hazel eyes finally alighted on their target. **Here we go**
Walking up to the other queenrider, the Weyrwoman didn't give her a
chance to prepare herself really. Rhosyn liked to catch people off guard,
especially since first impressions were usually the most important.
"Greetings," she offered as she came up around Cyradis' side.

"Hello," said Cyradis with her friendly to a stranger smile that she'd
been using all day. Her eyes did an automatic glance at the shoulder
knots and her neck bobbed in acknowledgement of the other woman's
status. "Weyrwoman."

"I'm Rhosyn of River Bluff. I'd heard you arrived here so I thought I would
say hello." Curiously, she looked Cyradis over, judging without thinking
about it. "Welcome back to the south, or so I hear." The woman looked
capable, for one thing.

"Nice to meet you Rhosyn. I'm Cyradis and thank you." Her smile turned
genuine as she tilted her head a little. Dark eyes surveyed the other
goldrider. "Pretty dress," she said. It was a little daring but the
short skirt was understandable in the warmth around here. She knew
River Bluff was far to the west but essentially a very similar climate
to Dolphin Cove. "You have a talented weaver." She didn't reach out to
touch the embroidery but it was beautifully crafted.

**She doesn't know me at all if she thinks I give a rip about this dress**
Cyradis came down a bit in Rhosyn's estimation. The River Bluff Weyrwoman
wasn't often considered feminine in the traditional sense and she didn't have
time for it. "Aye we have many at the Weyr who can turn a needle. And
how are you settling in here?" That was what she really wanted to know.
**What does Janani think about an older goldrider coming into her wing**

Since the Weyrwoman seemed slightly dismissive of her comment she just
dropped it and moved on. "So far so good," she smiled. "I don't really know
anyone here well enough to have any problems yet." Most of her time so far
had been spent in the archives trying to dig into the backlog of incomplete
hidework. "Panitath certainly likes it."

"Well that's important," she admitted, considering what she could say next.
Rhosyn's eyes stayed focused on Cyradis' face. One hand was on a glass it
held and the other was by her side. "I hope you don't. It can be hard sometimes
coming into a new place."

Cyradis nodded with a wry smile. "It can sometimes be harder in the
_old_ place."

Thinking of her own history and wondering if Cyradis knew any of it, Rhosyn
could well understand that sentiment. "Aye it certainly can. Of course the hard
is what makes you stronger. And a strong weyrwoman is necessary for her Weyr."

Somehow she felt like she'd found herself standing in a field of
herdbeast dung and didn't quite know what she'd said wrong to get
herself there. Put a foot out of place and she'd be in trouble. The
Weyrwoman of River Bluff seemed to assume she knew things she didn't so
she promised herself she would do her research to keep herself out of
trouble next time.

She kept her smile fixed in place and tried to make it as genuine as
possible. "It certainly is. But I think I've had enough hard to last
me." She was fairly sure the other woman didn't know anything of her
own history. "You know," she started in an effort to be friendly. "I
should give you a bottle of my Citroncello. My father was a Master
Vintner and I bottle some of his special recipies." She nodded. "It's
a hobby."

"A hobby? We have a vintner at the Weyr, but he's still working things
out. I'll never shrug away free alcohol though or anything free for that
matter." Her interest perked up whenever it came to food or anything
ingestible. Cyradis would make an easy friend that way.

Cyradis grinned. "We can go up to my weyr later and have a taste, see
if you like it." Finally she found some common ground and felt good
about it.

"Oh aye sure. Been dying to see what the gold weyrs over here look like,
to be honest. The way they tell it, Dolphin Cove lives in squalor compared
to us with the quake and all." She frowned, thinking it had been such a sad
thing and understood the necessity of quick rebuilding with the Pass.

"Well I wouldn't call it squalor," she smiled and turned to lead the
way. "But there is a definite change in the things I'm used to having
about. Like lighting." Her weyr wasn't far from the hatching grounds
so it didn't take them very long to reach it. She opened the door and
invited Rhosyn to precede her into the room.

Slowly walking inside, she looked around and silently compared the weyr
to her own. Of course her weyr was bigger and Janani's likely was here.
Still, it was different. Wondering how Cyradis felt about the lack of comforts,
she noted the woman's decorating so far. "Well it's not so bad. And I suppose
it's better than the other weyrs. You have a bathing pool at least."

"Yes, that was a nice surprise." She walked across to her sideboard
and pulled out a bottle of her Citroncello. Of course she didn't have
any ice up here but poured a small glass for each of them and handed
one to the Weyrwoman. "To a good first hatching for Elleth," she
lifted her glass and took a small sip.

Rhosyn took it and sipped, smiling at the pleasant taste. "This is quite good."
After drinking what she liked, she pulled it down and nodded. "Aye, Meledei
and Elleth have done well for the Weyr. It'll make N'vanik happy."

"Thanks, I'll make sure you have a bottle to take home," she smiled.
She'd only met with the Weyrleader once though he seemed quite
competent and involved with his side of running the wings. "I'm glad
he'll be pleased. Panitath and I will attempt to do our best to
enhance Dolphin Cove's bloodlines. Her clutches are usually in the
high 30's to low 40's."

Orlaith could produce large clutches and had before, though these days
she tended to prefer rising more often to even things out. Rhosyn wished
she'd go back to laying larger clutches and rising less often so it meant
less time being grounded. "They're actually just getting back up to strength.
Did you uh..hear about the accident?" She didn't mean Traelyn though that was
a mess in itself. She was talking about the Weyrleader that took so
many with him.

She liked this woman, she was direct and not a mass of subterfuge and
hidden agendas. Cyradis half smiled and gave a slight nod. "I have to
admit to a certain amount of curiosity. I've been in the records for
days doing basic research. I've read some of what happened." She shook
her head.

"It was an awful thing and N'vanik has worked hard to get the wings back
up. Without much help until recently, I'm afraid." She frowned, shaking her
head at such idiocy.

"Well I certainly have my work cut out for me getting things in order.
But I excel at recordkeeping so I should be able to get everything on
track." She smiled, "We should probably rejoin the party."

"Aye, they'll probably have a fit and say I'm somewhere in a corner whoring
it up." She shrugged, obviously showing how much she cared about what might
be said. Resigned to more mingling, she followed Cyradis back.
